| Description |
English: War Memorial, Christchurch Road, Reading. This War Memorial is in the grounds of Christ Church and easily visible from Christchurch Road. The text reads:- "To the honoured memory of the men of this parish who died for their country in the Great War 1914-1919." The Imperial War Museum's War Memorials Archive currently contains very little information about this memorial other than its location, that it is a cross made of granite and that it was unveiled in 1920. For which information: © IWM (WMA-65740). The memorial relates only to the First (Great) World War. Inside Christ Church there is a memorial plaque recording the names of one hundred people who died in that war. Reading has an unusually large number of war memorials, including some on commercial premises relating to staff who served and died in the war. |
