English: Water spout at Croxton Kerrial. Compare this 1927 historical image with 30072 taken in 2005.
Permission to upload this photograph is kindly given by Ken Harris who, with his sister, was evacuated to Croxton during the Second World War in 1940. It shows his mother, photographed by his father, standing by the water spout which is by the A607 as you enter the village from the Melton direction. During the war Ken says that they used to see horse-drawn carts with a cylinder pulled up under the spout to fill the cylinder up. He understood it was water for a local airfield that was being built, (see 77405). |
