PASSING OF CAPT EVAN APPLEQUIST, DC, USN

A native of Edina, Minnesota, CAPT Applequist passed away peacefully on December 11, 2015 from cancer. CAPT Applequist was a graduate of Edina-East High School, received his Bachelors of Science degree from St. John's University in 1981, and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota in 1985. He entered the United States Navy following dental school and had distinguished 30 year career as a Naval Dental Officer.

CAPT Applequist reported to Naval Dental Center San Diego in November 1985, where he served as a general dentist until June 1987. He then reported onboard the aircraft carrier USS America (CVN 66) for a two year tour. In September 1989, he reported to the Branch Dental Clinic, Quantico, Virginia. In July 1993, he reported to the Naval Dental School, Bethesda, Maryland as a resident in the two year Comprehensive Dentistry Program. Upon completing the program in June 1995, he reported to Branch Dental Clinic, Gaeta, Italy where he served until Oct 1996. He then reported to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he was the program director for the AEGD program. In July 2000, he reported as the Director of the Branch Dental Clinic, Corpus Christi, Texas where he served for four years. In July 2004, he reported as the Assistant Dean, Naval Postgraduate Dental School (NPDS) and in July 2006, transferred to the National Naval Medical Center as the Deputy Director of Clinical Services, where he served for two years. He also served as the head of the Presidential Dental Support Team from 2004-2008 and was the personal dentist for President George W. Bush. He then returned on staff at NPDS where he served as Staff and then Program Director of the Comprehensive Dentistry residency until June 2012. He reported to his last assignment at the Naval Branch Health Clinic, Pentagon, Arlington, VA.
