| Description |
English: Wellingtonias, Stratfield Saye. This group of trees stand in light woodland known as the Pleasure Grounds. This clump has formed by the layering of the lower branches of the central parent tree (see 1422804 ). Wellingtonias were named in honour of the first Duke of Wellington, having been introduced to this country in 1853, a year after his death. The parent tree here was planted in 1857 by the second Duchess. It was designated one of 50 Great British trees in 2002 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee (see 1422810). |
