| Description |
English: Wheel outside the old Pumping Station, Garnier Road, Winchester This old wheel stands outside the sewage pumping station on Garnier Road, in the Itchen water meadows valley. The pumping station was constructed in the late 1800s to raise sewage to be treated at the works on St Catherine's Hill. Up until March 1975 the station used household refuse as a fuel to power two steam engines. The Pumping Station building (to the right of this wheel) is no longer in use and there are proposals to convert it into a "workspace for creative industries". |
