While his engage-ment at this time lasted until 1892,he was granted leave of absence dur-ing the season of 1890-91 to sing atthe Metropolitan O. H., New York. HisAmerican debut was made Nov. 26,1900, in Franchettis Asrael, under theconductorship of Anton Seidl. Uponthe termination of his Bremen engage-ment he visited U. S. for a concert tour,during which he sang under AntonSeidl, Arthur Nikisch and TheodoreThomas. Returni-ng to Germany hesang at the Stadt, Breslau, dur-ing the season of 1892-93, and from1893 to 1898 he was mem. of the Im-perial Court Opera in Vienna. In 1898he returned to New York, where he re-sumed his connection with the Metro-politan Opera co., then under the man-agement of Maurice Grau, of which hewas a permanent mem. until 1909.
