Description
Deutsch: Das Kunstmuseum Albertina (graphische Sammlung uam.) am Albertinaplatz im 1. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Innere Stadt mit der „Soravia Wing“ und dem Reiterstandbild von Erzherzog Albert.
Das Museum befindet sich im Palais Erzherzog Albrecht, das von 1742 bis 1745 als Palais Taroucca erbaut wurde. Von 1801 bis 1804 erfolgte eine Erweiterung unter Einbeziehung von Teilen des Augustinerklosters durch Louis Montoyer und wurde 1867 teilweise neu fassadiert. Im Zuge einer umfangreichen Renovierung um rd. 100 Mio. Euro ([1]) wurde auch ein über 50 Meter langes und 12 Meter breites, umstrittenes Flugdach ([2]) nach einem Entwurf von Hans Hollein errichtet, nach den Sponsoren (Bauunternehmern Erwin und Hanno Soravia) als „Soravia Wing“ bezeichnet und am 11. Dezember 2003 eröffnet: [3].
Das Reiterstandbild aus Bronze zu Ehren von Erzherzog Albrecht von Österreich-Teschen (1817–1895) stammt von Caspar Ritter von Zumbusch (1830–1915) und wurde am 21. Mai 1899 feierlich enthüllt: [4].
