Description
Deutsch: Der Schottenaltar im Museum des Schottenstiftes im 1. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Innere Stadt.
Der Schottenaltar, ein Flügelaltar mit 24 Bildern, von denen noch 21 erhalten sind, zählt zu den bedeutendsten gotischen Kunstwerken des späten Mittelalters in Wien. Er wurde um 1470 von einem namentlich unbekannte Künstler geschaffen und diente als Hochaltar-Retabel in der Stiftskirche. Im Zuge eines Umbaus der Kirche in der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts wurde er durch einen Barockaltar ersetzt.
