Deutsch: Südansicht der Universitätssternwarte im 18. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Währing.
Die Sternwarte wurde von 1874 bis 1879 nach Plänen von Ferdinand Fellner und Hermann Helmer nach den Vorgaben des Astronomen Carl von Littrow errichtet. Das Zentrum des Gebäudes bildet die 14 m große Hauptkuppel, umgeben von drei weiteren, kleineren Kuppeln am Ende des nördlichen, westlichen und östlichen Traktes. Der Südtrakt beherbergte die Wohn- und Arbeitsräume der Astronomen. Noch heute ist die Wiener Universitätssternwarte mit einer Breite von 73 Metern und einer Länge von 101 Metern das größte Sternwartegebäude Europasː [1].
