Beginn des Dessauer Millionenschieber-Prozesses.
Am 24. April 1950 begann vor dem ersten Strafsenat des Obersten Gerichts der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik der Prozess gegen den ehemaligen Minister für Arbeit und Sozialwesen von Sachsen-Anhalt, Herwegen, und seine Mitangeklagten. Die Verhandlungen, die unter starker Teilnahme der werktätigen Bevökerung im Landestheater Dessau stattfinden werden von der Vizepräsidentin des Obersten Gerichtshofes, Hilde Benjamin, geführt.
Dr. Leo Herwegen, ehem. Minister für Arbeit und Sozialwesen in Sachsen Anhalt;
Prof. Dr. Willi Brundert, ehem. stellvertretender Wirtschaftsminister von Sachsen-Anhalt;
Dipl.-Ing. Hermann Müller, ehem. Direktor der Deutschen Continentalen Gasgesellschaft in Dessau;
Dr. Leopold Kaatz, ehem. Direktor der Dessauer Zuckerraffinerie und Präsident der Industrie und Handelskammer in Dessau;
Ernst Simon, ehem. Landgerichtsdirektor in Dessau und später juristischer Hilfsarbeiter der Deutschen Continentalen Gasgesellschaft;
Paul Heil, ehem. Rechtsanwalt und Notar;
Ernst Pauli, ehem. Wirtschaftsbeautragter beim Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Dessau und gleichzeitig Leiter der Abteilung Industrie bei der Industrie und Handelskammer in Dessau;
Heinrich Scharf, ehem. Mitglied des Direktoriums der Landeskreditbank Sachsen-Anhalt, werden angeklagt, die Überführung des Konzerns der Deutschen Continentalen Gasgesellschaft in das Eigentum des Deutschen Volkes planmäßig sabotiert zu haben. Gegen den ehem. Direktor der Deutsche Continentalen Gasgesellschaft Friedrich Methfessel, der sich durch die Flucht nach Westdeutschland vorläufig der Verantwortung entzogen hat, wird in Abwesenheit verhandelt.
