ambers, and pavilions, are of polished white marble.The walls of the balcony, which overhangs the Jumna, are finelyinlaid inside and outside with mosaics, which combine jasper, agate,carnelian, bloodstone, lapis-lazuli, and malachite. The balcony isguarded with balustrades of delicate marble fretwork. The apart-ments of the zenana are extensive and of exquisite finish. Theylook down upon what was once a garden. The fountains, whichthrew fanciful jets into bathing-rooms, are broken up, but thevaulted roofs of marble tracery still remain filled with the thou-sands of miniature prismatic mirrors. The Divan, in Orientalspeech called the Judgment-seat of Akbar, is a grand open por-tico, with Saracenic roof and arches, resting on three rows of col-umns. In its centre is a marble throne, inlaid, like the pavilionwhich covers it, with mosaic wreaths and texts from the Koran,composed of jasper and carnelian.
