Description
English:

Mural monument to William Knoyle (1558-1607), Sandford Orcas Church, Dorset. He married twice: firstly to Fillipa Morgan, a daughter of Robert Morgan, Esq, of Mapperton House in Dorset, by whom he had four children who all predeceased him; secondly he married Grace Clavell, a daughter of John Clavell, Esq, of Barstone in Dorset, by whom he had issue 3 sons and 4 daughters. Heraldry: Three shields:

  • Centre: Gules, on a bend argent three escallops sable (Knoyle)

  • Sinister: (viewer's right) above effigy of second wife, dressed in mourning clothes, with her 4 daughters behind her and her 3 sons behind her husband, who kneels at centre facing her and holding a skull: Quarterly of 4:
