Summary[edit]

Description
English: Wilson Line Head Office, Hull. Between 1836 and 1914 over 2.2 million people passed through Hull and other Humber ports on their way from Northern Europe to North America, South Africa and Australia and by 1858 the firm of Thos. Wilson & Sons (the Wilson Line) virtually monopolised the transport by steamship of transmigrants from Scandinavia to Hull, becoming the largest privately owned shipping line in the world by the turn of the century. Situated on the corner of Commercial Road and Kingston Street, the Wilson Line head office is seen here through the arch of a signpost for the Hull Arena. More information on transmigration through Hull can be found here: http://www.norwayheritage.com/articles/templates/voyages.asp?articleid=28&zoneid=6
