The central tower stands on fourmassy piers, and were designed, according to some accounts, tosupport a lofty spire upon the tower, the flat wooden ceilingabove the arches has a bad effect in itself, and conceals somegood stone work. The north portion of the transept is open,has a flat ceiling, no aisles, and windows of late perpendicularcharacter, the lower portion of the walls is probably the originalNorman work. The organ loft and screen is set between the twoeastern piers of the tower; it is heavy, as is also the organ case,which does not accord with anything that is seen in connectionwith it.
