露天掘 （撫順炭坑 ）

滿鐵の經營に係る撫順炭坑―大山坑、東鄉坑其の他大規模の坑所が機箇所も有る―中にも此の露天掘こそは正に撫順炭坑をして東洋一の稱あらしむる所以であらう、露天掘は其の字の示す通り靑天井の野原に於て恰も土や砂を取る如くに石炭を掘り採る所の最も安全有利なる採炭方法である、此の方法は言ふ迄もなく石炭の層が地表に露れて居るか又は極めて近く且つ廣く厚きを要する斯くの如き天然の條件を包含してゐる、撫順大炭田の炭量は無慮八億噸と稱せられ、一年間八百萬噸の出炭を為すも優に百年の命脈を有すと。
