Official borders of Kurdistan[編輯]

These official borders of Kurdistan region are depicted wrongly in several maps in Wikipedia. Here are Kurdistan borders from official sources:

This map should be updated to reflect that. PANONIAN (留言) 08:54, 6 August 2014 (UTC)[回覆]

Yeah but they claim Kirkuk, and it's governorate. I think those are divisions of the three main provinces of Iraqi Kurdistan.—SPESH531Other 10:39, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[回覆]
Claimed area is another thing. In your map you depicted 3 areas: 1. official area, 2. controled area, 3. claimed area. I am simply saying that borders of official area in your map should be changed. PANONIAN (留言) 15:50, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[回覆]

I assume that you used some of these maps as a source for official area in your map:

However, all these maps are practically unsourced, meaning that they do not recall any source (official or unofficial) which says that these are official borders of Kurdistan.

Contrary to that, this is an official source:

I would take any "official" map from the Kurdistanis with a mightily thick grain of salt. They are known to be upset about the borders of their land. Better to compare with independent sources to show exactly where the map is wrong. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 16:21, 10 August 2014 (UTC)[回覆]
But, that Kurdistan government website is at least some source. Do we have any source which says that these are official borders of Kurdistan region: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Iraq_Kurdistan_location_map.svg I see two problems with that map: 1. firstly Makhmur area is not depicted as part of Kurdistan and we know that Makhmur is part of Erbil governorate, even according to the view of Iraqi government; 2. this extension of Kurdistan in far south is not depicted as part of Kurdistan in this map from KRG government site: http://www.krso.net/documents/78/SubDistricts%20of%20the%20Governorates%20of%20Kurdistan%20Region.jpg We all know that KRG government have territorial claims, so why they would create map which shows that Kurdistan officially does not have that land in far south? Is there a source for the Kifri District in the Diyala Governorate being officially part of Iraqi Kurdistan prior to 2014?[編輯]

Looking at maps of Iraqi Kurdistan prior to 2014, the Kifri District in the Diyala Governorate is not shown at part of the region:

However, directly adjacent to that Kifri District, there is another "Kifri District" in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate (which is part the Kurdistan region). My guess is that someone got confused and thought both "Kifri" Districts were in the Kurdistan region.

Something to note: since ISIS pushed back the Iraqi Army, the town of Kifri (and the surrounding area in the Diyala Governorate) is now under Kurdish control, and will likely be unified with the Kifri District in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate. There's still part of the Kifri District (south of the town) under Iraqi control, but I don't think the KRG has much interest in this.
