@Alexis Jazz: What do you mean by "needed for flickrbot"? Why should we not be able to crop images, that came from Flickr? Watchduck (quack) 13:36, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Watchduck, User:FlickreviewR 2 can only review the original. As the original upload was from 2009 and I preferred the uncropped version (so the crop isn't minor/uncontroversial like it could be when cropping black borders or image corruption), the crop should be uploaded as a new file. - Alexis Jazz ^{ping plz} 14:29, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Ok, so the original format was needed for review by a bot. But now that it is reviewed, it should be like any other photo, right?

Uploads as a separate file make sense for detail crops like this.

But for slight crops like this, it makes sense to just overwrite the original. (COM:CROP#Minor improvements)

Such crops are indeed potentially controversial. But that does not mean, they have to be.
