Inaccuracies on this file page[edit]

Hello, I am TheAafi, a VRT agent. We have received an email on VRT (ticket:2023013110015354) claiming that there are certain inaccuracies on this file page. @Multichill: , I would be glad if you take care of this because you are the best person I am seeing mentioned on Commons:Geograph Britain and Ireland. Best regards and thanks. ─ The Aafī (talk) 12:52, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@TheAafi: the photo is uploaded from https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3740763 . I have no clue what is incorrect. Feel free to improve it based on the information in your ticket (which I can not see). Multichill (talk) 17:52, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Multichill: I will go ahead and see whatever the inaccuracies have been reported, if they fit in completely, I'll make the changes. I just wanted to hear from you. ─ The Aafī (talk) 17:56, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As indicated, I’m afraid that the information about the image on this webpage is substantially incorrect. The simplest and safest thing for a reader or researcher to do is to disregard this Wikimedia page entirely and go straight to the Geograph source page which has the correct information.
The image on this page is of Lamesley Road and shows the first of 5 bridges carrying the main line and the several tracks at the southern end of the Tyne Yard railway marshalling yard over the road - and that is all it shows.
The image does not show the site of Lamesley station, nor does it show Smithy Lane as said in the description. Both are three-quarters of a mile to the north at the northern end of the marshalling yard. The description is a copy of the description given on the Geograph website but it has been rewritten so as to give incorrect information. The camera co-ordinates have also been manipulated to incorrectly show the camera position as having been on Smithy Lane, whereas the map on the Geograph webpage shows the camera position correctly on Lamesley Road.
If the description on this Wikimedia page is replaced by that on the Geograph page, “Lamesley station” is removed from the title, and the camera position reference is changed to that shown on the Geograph webpage, then this Wikimedia page will be correct.
Strictly speaking, the image has nothing to do with Lamesley station. I imagine that it is mentioned on the Geograph webpage only as a matter of general interest since the site of the station is not far away from the otherwise unremarkable bridge in the image. Lamesley station was on the south side of Smithy Lane and a bridge carried Smithy Lane over the tracks. Some of the station buildings were up on the bridge. There was a saw mill beside the station (it is shown on old maps) and it still exists today. It can be seen in photographs of the north end of the marshalling yard. When the station was demolished to make way for the marshalling yard, the Smithy Lane bridge was demolished as well and replaced with a modern concrete bridge going over all the many tracks at the north end of the marshalling yard. The marshalling yard opened in 1963. So the situations regarding the roads and bridges at the north and south ends of the marshalling yard are quite different and cannot be confused.
If any further evidence or clarification is needed: photographs or maps, I will be very happy to provide it. Longfram (talk) 16:55, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellywa and @Ankry: I'd be very much helpful if you guys help here. ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:26, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
