First thoughts

[編輯]

It's looking pretty good! Here are some changes I would make:

  • See those 2 ISIS pockets along the Lebanese border? They're connected in real life.
  • The green immediately around Zabadani beds to be removed. The regime controls this area.
  • Add Nusra color near Az Zarah (a village near Homs. Nusra was the main group that took this village, and holds it today.

That's it for now! Good job, Ermanerich. Pbfreespace3 (留言) 12:18, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Thank you very much! I'll make this edit this evening or tomorrow. And to Zabadani: Do you mean that there is no connection to the rebel positions south of it in Madaya and the surrounding villages?
Two other things: The first would be, that it would be really good if you could say the governorate or nearby city if you change or add a small village. It's otherwise hard to find it on the Template later. The other thing is about the Aleppo map. I can't change it as long as the situation is not clear, because such an edit is very time intensive.--Ermanarich (留言) 16:04, 16 August 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Jarabulus

[編輯]

Jarabulus should be Turkish now (either light green representing FSA, or a new color for Turkish millitary). --69.91.151.214 21:10, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Update, 22:36, 29 August 2016

[編輯]

Turkey and allied rebel groups (mainly composed of Islamists) continued their attack against the Syrian Democratic Forces and were able to push them back behind the Sajur river. They key town on the way between Jarabulus and Manbij, Awn al-Dadat is now in their hands.

The U.S. demanded from the SDF to retreat east of the Euphrates river and leave Manbij to the Turkish army and the rebel groups accompanying it. This means in fact, that the whole Manbij offensive, which endured over three months was completely obsolete.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State is benefitting from the Turkish attack on the SDF and managed to conquer some villages from the Syrian Democratic forces southeast of Manbij.

In Deir ez-Zor, the SAA on the ground was able to push back the Islamic State militants from al-Walid-farms and the Panorama-roundabout after heavy air raids by the Russian airforce.

Darayya, a southern suburb of Damascus was completely reconquered by the SAA from Rebel factions.

In northern Hama governorate, a Jund al-Aqsa (al-Qaeda-affiliate) led offensive took the strategic town Halfaya and several other villages from the SAA and allied militias.

Update, 18:41, 31 August 2016

[編輯]

Turkey backed rebels (mainly composed of Islamists) agreed in a temporary truce with the SDF. Ceasefire line is the Sajur river.

Meanwhile, SDF managed to recapture village conquered by the Islamic State the days before. Also SDF fighters from Afrin canton managed to push the IS out of some villages souht of Mare'.

In the pocket freshly conquered by Turkey and the rebels, The Islamic State managed to recapture three villages, among the Muhsinli in a surprise attack.

Further to the south, in northern Hama, Jund al-Aqsa continued its offensive and captured the key town of Taybat al-Imam along with other towns and villages. Syrian Arab Army and allies didn't manage to effectively stop this offensive yet.

Also, there were some clashes in Southern Aleppo with different endings, leaving the Opposition under control of al-Qarassi. The SAA managed to enter the Ramouseh military complex, which is currently contested.

Versions before 1. August 2016

Where are the versions before Aug. 2016?

Its not very useful to delete them - they should be kept for archiving and later review purposes. — 以上未簽名的留言是由該使用者加入的: Malte Schmidt (留言 • 貢獻) 03:36, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Nope, sadly not. That was the reason for which I created this map. The older maps are all PNG, at least on Wikimedia.--Ermanarich (留言) 15:29, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

One disadvantage

[編輯]

The newer picture has one disadvantage comparing with the older map: You can't zoom it very deep. It is possible to change this? — 以上未簽名的留言是由該使用者加入的: Radyserb-student (留言 • 貢獻) 22:59, 16 October 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

In the description it's said how to zoom into the picture (ctrl + scroll). It's actually possible to zoom in a bit deeper than into the old file. The other possibility is to download it and then open it with the free program "Inkscape". There you can zoom in maximally and even view the exact situation inside Aleppo, Damascus, etc.--Ermanarich (留言) 23:05, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Green spot in northwestern Deir Ezzor

[編輯]

It's a very minor fix, but the rebel area in the northwestern Deir Ezzor Governorate are now part of the SDF since several months ago.[1] They could also be considered as part of the FSA but in this map it seems that all FSA groups in the SDF are labelled orange since they are part of the SDF coalition. turkish Army

[編輯]

The turkish army has invaded (thats the right word?) syria, but in the map it is not published. can this be fixed? --2A02:8109:9A40:1778:F0B1:8723:C8E4:3454 01:41, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

The map is only derived from the Template:Syrian Civil War detailed map, all changes are just as they're shown over there
If you want to discuss this, I recommend you to do it at Talk:Cities and towns during the Syrian Civil War, which is the Template's talk page. By the way, I support this change.--Ermanarich (留言) 19:16, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[回覆]
How can this derivation-process be started? The actual image is days behind the situation. --2A02:8109:9A40:1778:2957:1BBA:FE5C:C0DC 01:13, 22 December 2016 (UTC)[回覆]
Done. It's actually derived from the informations given on the template and retraced with Inkscape.--Ermanarich (留言) 00:30, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[回覆]

Can the colors be made neutral?

[編輯]

Right now the Syrian government is colored red while the opposition is colored green. To me this implies that the Syrian government is 'bad', while the opposition is 'good'. Can we change the map to neutral colors (e.g. blue for the government and pink for the rebels)? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.24.139.138 (talk) 15:49, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

that means the color purple? --Kurono (留言) 07:46, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

No, I won't change it. It's the colours used for Wikipedia Civil War maps and also in most other Syrian Civil war maps. Also, that's the difference between Syrian Ba'athist and FSA flag: First one has a big red area, which is green at the FSA flag. Shall they change these flags as well, because red is bad?--Ermanarich (留言) 15:03, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

Towns west of Aleppo

[編輯]

As per the detailed map which this map is based on, the al-Nusra Front exclusively controls Anadan, Haritan, Kafr Hamra, and several other towns west of Aleppo. This has been the status since last month when JFS expelled the FSA's Army of Mujahideen (more info at Idlib Governorate clashes (2017)). Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Thanks. Editor abcdef (留言) 02:25, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

Areas.

[編輯]

Waer, Barzeh and Mahajja just are under government control. Please change. On map these areas are under rebel-Islamist control. Warszawiak22 (留言) 15:09, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

Turkish Intervention

[編輯]

Short explanation why I removed colour for the Turkish intervention: I think that it should be shown, but this map is based exclusively on the infos by the Template. On the template's talk page I already pledged to add an own colour for the Turkish intervention, so this may change soon, anyway.--Ermanarich (留言) 13:34, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

I agree with sticking to the template to ensure consistency. However, you coloured Turkish held areas in the Idlib province as a HTS-controlled which is incorrect. Rob984 (留言) 20:05, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[回覆]

The colour for the turkish intervention have to be changed --178.11.3.97 23:13, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Update

[編輯]

Hello, this map needs to be updated. It hasn't since nearly two months. I would have done it but I don't know how to. The army has captured Al-Rastan and Eastern Qalamoun pockets as well as a large part of the Badia isis-pocket.--Sakiv (留言) 14:38, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

Map updates needed

[編輯]

I am highly updated on stuff going on in Syria and Yemen at the moment, however this map which is a highly important part of the article Syrian Civil War has not been updated since late May, despite there having been several important changes in territory since then. I hope someone might get us an updated version soon. Vif12vf (留言) 00:06, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[回覆]

HTS + allies colour

[編輯]

Hey guys, what's the go on marking the areas controlled by Jaish al-Izza (remaining areas in Hama) and Turkestan Islamic Party (Jisr ash-Shughur CS) as HTS-controlled due to their alliances with HTS? And having HTS icon be "Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and allies" instead of just plain "Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)"? I would argue that seeing two green patches in Idlib after HTS won the battle is aesthetically displeasing. Nate Hooper (留言) 14:00, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

Don't crop the map & sources

[編輯]

Ok, I don't know who had the idea to crop the objects on the map, but it fucked it up pretty badly. Don't do that! It makes editing the map a hell, there are touching points everywhere, which makes it unbelievably time intensive to move frontlines. Plus, it has no use, as the objects are not transparent. So please, whoever did this - for the love of god - never do this again!!!

Second point are the sources. It's in the description since the beginning and still, mappers are ignoring it: This map is only a mirror of Template, where sources are visible. Please don't make changes that aren't in the template. If you're unhappy with something, discuss or change it there. This map is completely based on the template. Please act accordingly.--Ermanarich (留言) 00:18, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

Why the choice of the white color for HTS / Hayat Tahrir al-Cham / HTC ?

[編輯]

Usually in map making / cartographye, white color / colour is used for empty areas ?? It is too neutral a color, and may hinder the whole comprehension of the map, as if these areas where not parts of Syria any longer... --Wisdood (留言) 09:12, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

The choice of colors appear to be influenced by the flags and symbols of the belligerents. Red from the Syrian flag, green from the flag of the Syrian opposition, yellow for Rojava, black for ISIS, and white for HTS. I think it's the best solution available to us. Mikrobølgeovn (留言) 22:56, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

Why the choice of the grey color for the Daesh / Daech / ISIS / Islamist state / Islamic state in Iraq and Syria ?

[編輯]

Usually in map making / cartographye, grey / greyish color / colour is used for areas without data / with missing data / with no data ?? It is far too neutral a color, and may hinder the whole comprehension of the map, as if these areas where not under the juridiction of Syria any longer... --Wisdood (留言) 09:16, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[回覆]

[編輯]

Why are parts of the Daraa governorate depicted in purple reconciliation? The region is presently wholly controlled by the SAA and allies... It confuses the readers, because the so-called Syrian peace process doesn’t have a single influence in thoses territories. Put it back in red please! Update and unlocking

[編輯]

It's been over a year since the map was last updated – and there are still 3 more years left on the lock. Frankly I find the lock length to be ridiculous – I understand there was some kind of edit war but locking the template for 4 years seems like drastic overkill. The lock, as far as I can tell, has completely killed any and all efforts to update the map – as neither admins nor certified template editors contributed to the map updates at any point before the lock. 47.20.177.163 16:02, 16 October 2022 (UTC)[回覆]

It has been over a year snice this map was updated and snice there is reports of this conflict about to escalate it should immediately be updated again. The map should resemble this (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/84/Syria.svg) or you can make one based off this user's map (https://twitter.com/Suriyakmaps/status/1568656059476152320?cxt=HHwWgMC4_f-X_sQrAAAA).
