Summary[edit]
DescriptionA proud Fulmar Petrel of St Kilda - geograph.org.uk - 720013.jpg |
English: A proud Fulmar Petrel of St Kilda The islanders sold the Fulmar feathers to the British Army as they were effective in countering bed lice. The oil exuded by the bird was sold as a cure for rheumatism and the meat like that of the Puffin was a favoured food source. The Fulmar like the Albatross is a "tubenose" having a "tube" atop its beak through which it can shoot a vile oil with such precision as to separate a gnat from its eye. |
