Description

Stuckstatue Karls des Großen in der Klosterkirche. Die Skulptur gilt als die älteste Monumeltalstatue Karls. Schätzungen zum Alter gehen allerdings weit auseinander, "zwischen dem 8. und dem 12. Jh.". D.h. einige Experten hielten sie für eine zeitgenössische Darstellung, andere brachten sie mit der Heiligsprechung Karls 1165 in Verbindung. Sicher ist, dass die Statue mehrmals überarbeitet wurde, und ihre älteste Schicht daher nicht an der Oberfläche liegt. In einem Nationalfondsprojekt wurde die Statue 2013/5 mit Röntgenstrahlung untersucht.[1]
