Object history 1657: commissioned by Joanna Beata née Wapowska
Notes Jan Klemens Branicki of Gryf coat of arms, Chamberlain of Kraków from 1653, participated in defence of Kraków during invasion of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, known as the Deluge, in 1655. He was killed in March 1657, when sent with letters by Queen Marie Louise Gonzaga from Jasna Góra fortress to Silesia. His epitaph in black Dębnik marble was founded by his wife Joanna Beata née Wapowska. Very similar portrait from the Potocki Palace in Ros (Belarus) is today in the Wilanów Palace in Warsaw (Wil.1503, identification by Marcin Latka (Artinpl), 19.10.2022).
