Multilingual[edit]

It is good to make this WikiProject multilingual. Aside from English (it's assumed that English is to be put everywhere)... Spanish is the most important language overall for this project. It is far more numerous in the U.S. than French, German, and the Native American languages put together. WhisperToMe (talk) 16:16, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seguro que si. Bien sûr. Конечно. Someone ought to translate our file descriptions, etc into many languages. As an editor I have handled pictures of my home town made by visitors who described them in Spanish, German, Hungarian, Chinese or Thai. Some have three or four languages. Probably more of our editors have the desire and the power to translate English to or from Spanish than other languages, but all are welcome. You only have to go ahead and do it, or persuade others who have the skill. I only understand enough Spanish to translate, slowly and with difficulty, from that language to English, so I usually find other things to do with my limited time and talents. That's fine! One thing I do is list images on commons:requests for translation if I do not know the language or think that it will take too long for me to make a description in that language. WhisperToMe (talk) 15:34, 21 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Most important languages (immigrant languages)[edit]

The District of Columbia Public Schools indicated the main immigrant languages are: Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Amharic. Those are the most important languages other than English for this topic. -- WhisperToMe</nowiki> ([[User talk:WhisperToMe|<span class="signature-talk">talk</span>]]) 07:08, 4 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
