Irvin Sto. Tomas has been involved in the Wikimedia movement since 2006. He is one of the founders of Philippine Wikimedia Community User Group wherein he served as Board Chair in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022. Currently, he serves as Board Treasurer of Commons Photographers User Group, and ESEAP Preparatory Council Member.
He is an administrator of Bikol Wikipedia, and co-founder of Bikol Wikipedia Community. He has organized several activities on Bikol Wikipedia, Bikol Wikisource, and Wikimedia Commons. He served as the project lead of Wiki Takes Naga (2012), Wikipedia Takes Rinconada (2015-2016), and Wiki Takes Nueva Caceres (2022); project lead of Wiki Loves Monuments Philippines (2018, 2019, 2020 and 2023); events manager and jury member of Wiki Loves Earth Philippines (2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021); and jury member, Wiki Loves Armenia (2020), Wiki Loves Earth Armenia (2020), and Wiki Loves Monuments Philippines (2022). He is part of the Wikisource Loves Manuscripts Learning Partners Network.
He represented Commons Photographers User Group at the Wikimedia Summit 2021 via online in Berlin; CPUG and Bikol Wikipedia Community at EduWiki Conference 2023 via online in Belgrade, Serbia and at Wikimania 2023 held in-person at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre in Singapore. Previously, he represented the PhilWiki Community User Group at Wikimedia Conference 2017, 2018 and 2019 held in Berlin, ESEAP Wikimedia Conference 2018 held in Bali, Indonesia, and Wikimedia+Education Conference 2019 held at San Sebastian, Basque Country in Spain.
