File renaming[edit]
This your renaming was not correct. Please read Which files should not be renamed?, cr.1.--Anatoliy (talk) 14:49, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Actually removing tags such as DSC is perfectly fine. It's more about spacing. If I were to move a file like FenwayPark to Fenway Park, then that would meet what you described above. Sportsguy17 15:03, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the interest in my photos, but I'll request that you NOT rename them. I believe the old names were 331 High Pottstown.JPG and 61 High Pottstown.JPG. These are addresses and are not meaningless. The examples given for meaningless filenames are 22785u9ob807b3c4f4.jpg and DSC_1342.jpg which are in a completely different league. All my filenames have some meaning, though they may not mean a whole lot to a casual passerby. Your names may mean more to you, but my names help me and my work on WP:NRHP. I'm more concerned however that this type of thing might grow until Commons doesn't accept files unless they have a specific name format. There's no need for anything like that (or to change those 2 file names back to my old ones). I hope you understand my concerns. Smallbones (talk) 00:17, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Smallbones, I appreciate you bringing up my concrns. First of all, you don't own the files. I don't think you meant it like that, but the attitude and word choice makes it seem like you own the photos and that no one can touch them. Second, they do redirect, so if you do need the addresses, the photos redirect or you can add it to the description. It simply met the criteria for renaming. Not everyone knows what 61 High Pottstown might be, but the name of the historic place people may know better. I do wonder the same thing about Commons every so often. It'd be fairly difficult to revert my move and I may receive complaints, so I'm not going to take any action. Best. Sportsguy17 01:14, 5 January 2014 (UTC)
