Please help replace this outdated license[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license {{PD}}. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding {{PD-self}} if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Picture of the Year voting round 1 open[edit]

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Karte Transsib[edit]

-- Хрюша ?? 17:22, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

When categorising files, please avoid placing them into several categories that are directly linked within the same tree (e.g. a parent category and a child category – like Category:United Kingdom and Category:London), to prevent over-categorization of files and over-population of categories. Usually, only the most specific category should be used. See Commons:Categories for more details. Thank you.

-- sk (talk) 17:04, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Dresden pics[edit]

You've been uploading some great images of Dresden!

Could you I ask you to categorise them to a category for the book as well, Category:Die geschichtliche Entwickelung der Residenzstadt Dresden (1893) KRAUSE, Bruno, which is now linked to from the index at Commons:British_Library/Mechanical_Curator_collection/Synoptic_index,_Europe#.E2.80.93_Saxony_and_Thuringia.

Thanks! Jheald (talk) 17:07, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Ok. I can also insert this pictures in this category. Is there not a bot? --sk (talk) 17:11, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
I'm hoping Magnus may adapt one of his tools to help upload a whole book at a time, & create the category at the same time. I talked to him about it on Thursday evening, and he seemed receptive, but he has a lot of calls on his time. But for the moment, I am sorry but there is not a bot. (Though one can select a lot of images & categorise them all at once, using cat-a-lot). Jheald (talk) 18:45, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
And today Magnus emailed me that Step 1 is now done: he's adapted his flickr2commons bot, so that you can now pre-specify a tag as well as a username -- so you can now use it to look at all of the images from a particular book -- and then choose which ones you want to upload.
He tells me that: "I'll look into step 2 (generating the special template for BL) soon. Just so you know I haven't forgotten you ;-) "
So I hope this is a step in the right direction. Jheald (talk) 16:21, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open![edit]

POTY barnstar.svg

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Stefan Kühn,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.

Image location[edit]

I know that this picture was taken several years ago, but I still wonder if you may know the answer. Do you know where File:Wire marker.jpg was taken? It was taken on 21 August; on 13 August, you were in Austria, while on 25 August, you were in Germany. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 00:33, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello @Nyttend:, I have added the coordinate for this image. I stand on the bridge over the Bundesautobahn 17. It is located in Germany, Dresden, Roßthal -- sk (talk) 07:32, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you! I am dividing Category:High-voltage overhead power lines into national categories, so I have now moved the image into the German subcategory. Nyttend (talk) 12:39, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Brück & Sohn Kunstverlag[edit]

Hi! All of 'Postcards of Hungary published by Brück & Sohn' pics have also 'Images from Brück & Sohn' so I put it to the category rather than as an image of each prospect. So you will be reverted! Thank you for your cooperation! - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 20:53, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

@Globetrotter19: I revert your change for a reason. All images from the publisher Brück & Sohn should be inside this one Category:Images from Brück & Sohn. So later everyone can find this picture only with the knowledge of the number (See Commons:Brück & Sohn#Search a postcard). But also every postcard should be have a subcategory under Category:Postcards published by Brück & Sohn by location. So every postcard can be found easy by the name of country or town.
@Globetrotter19: See also my change here. -- sk (talk) 06:10, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
I saw your change there now. Still I think it should be enough to put in subcats the pictures, because otherway its look like an overcategorizing.
However, if you need a 'main category' (Category:Images from Brück & Sohn) I think it should be indicate as a hidden category, because now it is a bit confusing. - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 08:49, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
@Globetrotter19: Thanks for this info. I have change this category to a hidden category. -- sk (talk) 08:54, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
@Stefan Kühn:Okay. - - Globetrotter19 (talk) 08:58, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Nomination for deletion[edit]

Hi. I've created two nomination for deletion pages and added them here. But the page looks like something went wrong. Can you fix it please? Thanks. --85.101.109.144 09:31, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know how to fix. Normaly you only write a template at the image. Please ask under Commons talk:Deletion requests. -- sk (talk) 09:37, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Kategorien von Postkarten[edit]

Hallo Stefan,

-- sk (talk) 13:28, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

add-information[edit]

Hallo, Wenn du add-information benutzt bitte per Hand nachprüfen, wie hier. File:1200xl.jpg gibt beispielsweise nun nun Fehler. Danke. --Steinsplitter (talk) 17:58, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

-- sk (talk) 18:01, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Georeferenzierung[edit]

Dresdentitans2012leitershofen.jpg

https://tools.wmflabs.org/wiwosm/osm-on-ol/commons-on-osm.php?zoom=16&lat=51.016856&lon=13.811946

Was läuft nicht richtig?

Klick mal auf "Map of all coordinates from Google". zu 3.) --sk (talk) 12:22, 30 June 2017 (UTC)
