Discussion

  •  Info The first few single edit uploads were tests, and needed a bit of work to get the descriptions right. But then the latest string of ~28 files uploaded were all done as a batch, and worked as intended. --99of9 (talk) 05:09, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think file names could be improved a little bit. It's not clear from name what graph is about if you don't know acronym meaning. I could propose Australian Demographic Statistics-Estimated Resident Population-Male-30 (ABS-3201.0-1-32) format. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:45, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Having the acronym and numbers at the start is crucial to keeping them grouped and in order when they're out there in category world, so I'm definitely not inclined to putting them at the back for aesthetic purposes. I'm open to including the category name "Australian Demographic Statistics". So how about: ABS-3201.0-1-32-Australian Demographic Statistics-Estimated Resident Population-Male-30.svg --99of9 (talk) 00:34, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a list of the filenames so far at Commons:Bots/Requests/File Upload Bot (99of9)/filenames, incorporating lots of extra detail per Eugene. --99of9 (talk) 15:02, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Seems more descriptive now :-)
I think will be good to add at least one subject category for graphs like vehicles sale.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a general way to extract categories, but the entire category is about vehicle sales, so Category:Images_using_data_from_the_Australian_Bureau_of_Statistics_category_9314.0 is (now) a subcategory of Category:Automobiles in Australia. That way they don't flood the category, and it seems consistent with COM:CAT. Things like state cats will need hotcat, because the data sets are too diverse to make specific rules for specific sets. --99of9 (talk) 15:04, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've done some extensive hardcoding of common categories. Check recent uploads. --99of9 (talk) 05:37, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If there are no any objections, I think bot status should be granted. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We have dozens of older open bot requests, what's up with the rush for this one?
The template seems to add source categories, please make these hidden or don't use a template to categorize these
You might want to put the "This graph was created with data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Data available on their website...." in the permission field of the information template.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd rather not move the "data from ABS" to the permissions section, because I don't want reusers to confuse their data CC-BY with my graph CC-BY-SA. I would consider moving it into the "source" field, or out of the info template entirely if you don't like it in the description.
✓ Done I've moved it into the source field (for both existing and future files). --99of9 (talk) 13:28, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in two minds about whether the source categories are strictly source categories or double source and content categories. This is because each one deals with a specific topic. So, for example, Category:Images_using_data_from_the_Australian_Bureau_of_Statistics_category_3401.0 is entirely about travel demographics in Australia (because that's what 3401.0 deals with), and I've categorized it as such. So I'm not sure whether to hide it and effectively make a copy category called Category:Statistics of travel demographics in Australia, or whether to stick with the current unhidden cats. Either way, this is a template/category issue, which I'll fix without the upload bot.
✓ Done These categories have been hidden. --99of9 (talk) 13:28, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Appears to be working well, and no further objections. So ✓ approved russavia (talk) 23:09, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
