Upload landing page[edit]

Hello,

This page is linked on wikilovesmonuments.org/participate/... Are we planning to update the map to make it worlwide ? Benoit Rochon (talk) 19:15, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I guess, this one’s really about Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments upload. I don’t know, why wikilovesmonuments.org already links there. But I reckon, it’s updated before the contest starts. --Alex (talk) 01:31, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Autotranslate[edit]

Maybe we should consider translating the list to different languages? And someone should update the map. And the list of course. Wizardist (talk) 21:12, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Heritage of Azerbaijan[edit]

Hello. I'm from Azerbaijan. And I also want to take part in this competition. In Azerbaijan we have many cultural heritage monuments. But there is not Azerbaijan in the list of countries. Could anybody add it? --Interfase (talk) 07:07, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please, see Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013. --V.Riullop (talk) 20:28, 25 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Armenia[edit]

Hi, Armenia is participating to WLM 2013, can you add this country in this page, under Europe? --vacio 17:15, 7 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Azerbaijan[edit]

Hello, Azerbaijan is now participating to WLM 2013. Please, add this country in this page, under Asia. --Interfase (talk) 14:41, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kenya[edit]

Hi, I'm from Kenya and I would like to upload some photos from my country. Can I please have my country added under Africa? --Dennis Munene (talk)

Hello Dennis Munene, I am sorry but Kenya is not participating this year in Wiki Loves Monuments. Nobody in Kenya has organized it there this year. Pictures uploaded for Kenya can't participate in the contest, but you can use the upload campaign for Kenya at this link and are very welcome! Greetings - Romaine (talk) 18:04, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Romaine.
Is there also a link for Sri Lanka? -- Cherubino (talk) 20:41, 13 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sri Lanka isn't participating this year. Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 is already running and fixed to the current countries, but you can prepare for the 2014 edition. One basic thing we need for participation in Wiki Loves Monuments is that there are lists of monuments on Wikipedia with the monuments. In most countries the national government has set up a list of monuments. Such list should be created on Wikipedia. See for example: en:List of Monuments of National Importance in Andhra Pradesh for a list in India. If you need help, contact me on this link. Romaine (talk) 01:12, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Its just holiday pictures of Category:World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka -- Cherubino (talk) 05:22, 14 September 2013 (UTC) PS: It should be possible for all pictures of monuments listet as World Heritage Sites to take part.[reply]

Request for me to confirm my email - I've done it, I've had Commons account for years, and it won't stop requesting it[edit]

Hi. I'm uploading images and a message came up asking me to confirm my email or I can't be informed if I "win" WLM. I've had a Commons account for years, so I was surprised to see this message. I followed through with confirming my email, via my email, and so forth. Now, I get the message every time I upload a WLM image. It'd be great to have this turned off. I can live with it, but, it seems to be an error popping up each time and it's really an eye sore after a while. Also the grammar is a bit funny...I'd suggest adding "we can't inform you if you win the Wiki Loves Monuments photo contest," or something. (And my grammar is terrible...but just a suggestion!) Thanks everyone for your hard work at WLM. Sarah (talk) 02:57, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sarah, thanks for participating. Can you go to Special:Preferences, tick "Enable email from other users" and upload a file? Is the message gone now? Multichill (talk) 09:51, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why I think WLM is useless[edit]

I upload hundreds of images using Commonist but I have no idea how to submit them to the WLM competition. Also, I am not always certain what is the name of the object I take a picture of - maybe it's what WLM needs, maybe not; a lot of things are not described in the real world. Even if I am near a WLM-wanted object, I know of no way to learn this - I travel, but I have no idea what is on the WLM wanted list, nor how to find it. If WLM had a mobile app, preferably integrated with Google Maps, that would allow people to find WLM-requested content, it would be a major help. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 02:43, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is an Android app.... Katie Chan (WMUK) (talk) 09:48, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Piotrus, if you like to take part in Wiki Loves Monuments, simply add {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2013|country code}} (where country code is your countries ISO 3166-1 code, e. g. {{Wiki Loves Monuments 2013|pl}} for photos from Poland) to the photos description page. --Alex (talk) 20:53, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. User:Alexander Sommer: can I do it even if I am not sure if the object in question is a missing monument? I know it's some kind of monument, of course (so I know not to tag a picture of a bus :>). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 04:33, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Piotrus, I guess your question concerns the national contest in Poland. Honestly, I am not familiar with the exact rules in Poland. I would guess that it does not matter whether or not the monument is missing, but it has to be listed on a specific heritage register. Seems like Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013 in Poland is quite active, please have a look at one of the sites linked there. PS: By the way, a bus might very well be a monument. At least, I know some trams that are. --Alex (talk) 16:28, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus: all you can have now is http://wikizabytki.pl/mapa (works on tablets). And of course there is mobile app. Yarl 10:14, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesia[edit]

Why you do not include my country Indonesia on the list? We have Borobudur as one the seven wonderer.... I think you must put Indonesia under ASIA list... Dian (talk) 23:44, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no one in Indonesia organized a national contest. Maybe next year someone will do. (Maybe you?) See Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013#Why is my country not participating in 2013?. --Alex (talk) 20:23, 27 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alex, I would love to organize this next year. When it is going to be next year? Could you please let me know? Dian (talk) 20:14, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dian, next years contest will most likely be in September, again. See Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2013/Timeline for a list of tasks we considered helpful this year. To my experience, the most important part is to get an official list (and have it stored in Wikipedia). --Alex (talk) 19:04, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ireland WLM 2014[edit]

Hi there, Ireland is participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2014, could our upload wizard be added to this list? https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wlm-ie Thanks, --Sabbon (talk) 16:33, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Romaine: can you have a look? Multichill (talk) 13:09, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That was solved already earlier. Romaine (talk) 20:16, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WLM upload wizard adds camera coordinates?[edit]

According User:V-wolf WLM upload wizard adds coordinates for camera location. However unless they come from EXIF data, the camera location is unknowable even to the wizard. Can someone familiar with the process confirm if that is true? WLM upload wizard should be adding {{Object location}} coordinates instead. --Jarekt (talk) 16:16, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Swedish version is based on the Wikipedia lists (example), where the coordinates are listed, and migrated to the wizard. V-wolf (talk) 08:50, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But those are {{Object location}} not {{Location}}. --Jarekt (talk) 12:20, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@V-wolf: @Jarekt: I fixed bugzilla:70437. You should check if more list templates make the same mistake. Multichill (talk) 13:06, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fast response. Nothing else is accumulating in Category:Pages with malformed coordinate tags and that was how we discovered this issue, but otherwise it is hard to tell which upload wizards add templates based on user input and which based on the object location database. It might be nice for other upload wizards to be adding {{Object location}} templates. For example Polish version does not. --Jarekt (talk) 13:26, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Turkey Missing[edit]

Why don't we add all the countries? Is there a problem with it? I'd like to add Turkish historical monuments. Why isn't there a category?--Kafkasmurat (talk) 12:13, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see Turkey on Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2014/Participating countries so I don't think Turkey is participating. Multichill (talk) 12:54, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In other words, the local community must organize itself and prepare a list of eligible monuments. It's not simply "snap a random old building in country xy". — Yerpo Eh? 05:18, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Better coverage of experienced users[edit]

Hi, please consider, that not only newbies migth want to contribute. So I had to spend some unnecessary time to check which category i had to add for contributing "officially" to WLM. As regular uploader of multiple files i do not even consider to use the newbie-upload tool of WLM, instead i always use vicuna uploader (but same for manual upload, commonist etc.). Please in 2015, describe the category to be added for contribution in a prominent place, too. Tx. - Andy king50 (talk) 18:33, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting of this page is broken on mobile[edit]

Hi

Viewing this page on mobile is broken, the last maybe 10 countries fall off the bottom of the page and can't be clicked.

Thanks

Georgia[edit]

Please add Georgia... Thenks!— Beqabai (talk) 15:59, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Canada[edit]

I had offered to help organize this contest for Canada, there is only one member on the Canadian Wikimedia panel and he was (and is) too busy to respond and lives too far away from myself to make it practical to meet up in person. Can we get help organizing it here? Oaktree b (talk) 03:17, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

updating[edit]

@Romaine: This page needs updating, not quite sure why it's protected. Would've liked to add a few countries :-( Braveheart (talk) 22:19, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Braveheart, The page will be certainly be updated at 31 August, perhaps earlier as well. Just as I keep some other pages in sync as well for WLM. Romaine (talk) 22:38, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Braveheart: I'm not sure if your comment is about listing a country to participate in WLM 2017. If that is the case, please add those countries at Commons_talk:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017/Participating_countries if they're missing from Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2017/Participating_countries. Thanks! --LilyOfTheWest (talk) 00:16, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@LilyOfTheWest: This is currently the overview page linked from wikilovesmonuments.org , and it still contains the list of countries from 2016. I can imagine the confusion and wish to have it updated. Unfortunately I can't edit it either, as I'm not an admin any longer. Romaine: Could you for now just remove the countries, and add a note like 'full list of countries follows soon'? Effeietsanders (talk) 21:01, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
