Commons has four kinds of top of page messages that can be used to convey information or announcements to readers and editors. The "Sitenotice", found at MediaWiki:Sitenotice, is displayed at the top of all pages for all logged-in users, and for anonymous users if MediaWiki:Anonnotice is empty; this latter message can be used to display information only to users who are not logged in. Alternatively, by 'blanking' the anonnotice and replacing it with <p></p>, the sitenotice can be used as a "logged-in-notice" to display information only to users who are logged in. MediaWiki:Sitenotice-translation provides localised sitenotices via {{LangSwitch}}, using MediaWiki:Sitenotice for en. MediaWiki:Sitenotice can contain any markup but must contain a <p>-tag. The contents of this <p>-tag are then replaced by MediaWiki:Sitenotice-translation, loaded by a script in MediaWiki:Common.jsMediaWiki:Watchlist-details is displayed at the top of Special:Watchlist for all users with user interface set to English when they use the Watchlist feature. There is also the CentralNotice, found at meta:Special:CentralNotice, an extension which can display banners at the top of a select group of Wikimedia sites simultaneously. |

- Oops, I guess I wasn't clear. If you set the width to 100% or 99% it would only take up one line and displace less content. Right now, my large screen shows a little banner that is centered and lots of whitespace. It's purely technical. {{editprotected}}. Cheers, Mono 16:30, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Request for sitenotice [edit]
Hello, I am requesting a sitenotice for POTY 2012 Round 2 (Final Round) to run instead of a CentralNotice on this wiki. Picture of the Year is a widely recognized event and we would like to encourage Commons editors to participate in celebrating Wikimedia's best pictures. The banner would remain visible to logged in editors from Feb 7 2012 to Feb 14 2013. You can view the banner here - the banner would appear in English only. - The CN banners are still up - they can go down for Commons when the sitenotice goes up. We're looking for the standard banner that's below. Mono 16:15, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
