DocumentationMedia bearing this template are added to Category:Media requiring renaming if at least one parameter is given (which should be the desirable filename). Used without any parameter, the template tags the file in Category:Media renaming requests needing target.

[edit] Usage
Add the following anywhere on the File: page that needs renaming:
{{rename|new name.ext|reason}}
- new name.ext
- new filename. See Commons:File naming for general guidelines
- Do not include the "File:" prefix, but do include the media file's extension.
- New names that include / are invalid; please do not use them
- reason
- optional: explain how your request meets one of the criteria of Commons:File renaming#What files should be renamed?
- If the file name is misleading, make sure to correct the description in the {{information}} template as well.
- Do not use named parameters 1= and 2=.
[edit] Scope
- This is for media only. For categories, galleries, and templates use {{move}}.
- If you have already uploaded the same file under a new name, use {{bad name}} instead of {{rename}}.
