How-to note: {{Template:PD-user-en|Name of user}} - do not put [[brackets]] around the name, and do not put :en:User: in front of the name.

i belive just linking without mentioning in the text where the user is from is not really giving proper attribution (as afacit link targets will be lost when for example printing). Whislt we don't technically have to give such attribution with PD images i consider it very bad form to not do so. Plugwash 01:25, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorry about that. Maybe Template:PD-user-w then should have yet another field, so that information is presented there, too? -- Duesentrieb 09:17, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

yes i think it could do with such a field lukilly its not used on all that many images yet.

btw afaict user: works on all wikipedias so you don't actually need a field for that part of the name.

Done. Please have a look. I also updated Commons:Copyright tags accordingly, the translated versions will have to be delt with by native speakers. -- Duesentrieb 20:09, 7 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Does anyone object if I create a bunch of {{PD-user-fr}} and {{PD-user-sv}} templates, like this one, instead of the {{PD-user-wikimedia}}?

{{editprotected}} |project=w|language=en parameters from PD-user-w for localizations would be nice. Thanks! 22:54, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Hello,
I don't really understand your request, could you be more clear please?
p.s please come to my talkpage for a explanation, that would be much faster :)

It's fine now. Thanks, Multichill. 13:08, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Categorization of tagged files[edit]

Should addition of this template auto-categorize the content? If so, to which category?

I would say "yes" to the first question and Category:PD-user to the second. However, for use of that category, would need to revise the scope of the category. Might either do this (scope revise cat) or create a new category Category:PD-wp-user for images released into the public domain by users of Wikipedia who are not Wikimedia users. I would favor the re-scoping of the existing category. --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 17:36, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Small note: the images come from not just the Wikipedias, but all the other Wikimedia projects. I have no real opinion on this. —innotata 15:17, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Option for displayname[edit]

{{Editrequest}} {{PD-user-w}} allows for a changeable displayname (as in, Some user's name instead of just User:Some user if they care to identify themselves), but this currently doesn't use that. I changed the other language ones that likewise didn't have this based on those that did already, but since this particular one is protected, and for good reason, could someone kindly be a dear and add parameter 4 such that it's an option as follows?

{{PD-user-w|language=en|project=Wikipedia|3={{{1}}}|4={{{2|{{{1}}}}}}}}<noinclude>[[Category:PD license tags|User-en]]</noinclude>

Edit request[edit]

{{Edit request}} Sync from Template:PD-user-en/sandbox. This adds named parameters for compatibility with mw:Extension:FileImporter, which can't use numbered parameters. Also allows override for language to allow FileImporter to translate from en:Template:PD-user (FileImporter can't use {{PD-user-at-project}} directly, since it doesn't support default values for parameters not specified). --Ahecht (TALK

@Ahecht: I see no real reason to do this for this extension. In fact the extension should be easy act accordingly what is established for years on Commons not the other way round!? The extension is from the WMF you are in representation of the WMF? I need one more reason for this. -- User: Perhelion 05:27, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Perhelion: No, I don't represent the WMF. While ideally the tool would be able to handle numbered and default parameters, adding named parameters and default values also increases the usability of the template without regressing its utility in any way. --Ahecht (TALK
