Hint!

Hi! You just got lost in the Flickr-License jungle. :) If you like, check out the Flickr-Upload-Bot Com:FUB. The bot makes sure that the upload easier. Thanks for all your work! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:28, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I provided a link to the Flickr source HERE which clearly indicates the Creative Commons license to freely share or remix. Please explain why these files were deleted. Bede735 (talk) 11:23, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

To clarify, I didn't delete the images, as I'm not an administrator. I tagged the images as problematic, and my work was reviewed by an admin who would have actually performed the deletion. The problem with those images is that they are licensed with the "non-commercial" tag, which prohibits any use of the image for commercial purposes. Our license terms require images to be freer than that, and we do not allow images with that restriction. (ESkog)(Talk) 14:53, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification. I will double-check the other files I've uploaded from Flickr to confirm that they have no commercial use restrictions. Bede735 (talk) 15:28, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I checked the files I recently uploaded from Flickr for non-commercial use restrictions. These 3 files list such a restriction:

I will reach out to Hedwig in Washington‎, the admin who deleted the other two files, and request that she review the Flickr pages and delete these files if they also violate the non-commercial use restriction. I will take care of the dead links on the article pages. Bede735 (talk) 15:42, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for being so understanding! It's not always the case here. Well, here is the information I promised (copied from Com:Flickr):
Notice Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC-BY) or BY SA (CC-BY-SA), or as "No known copyright restrictions", are allowed on Commons.
Copyright (All Rights Reserved), ND (CC-ND) and NC (CC-NC) are not allowed on Commons (also not in combination with BY or SA).
If in doubt, please use the Flinfo tool or ask on the talk page.
Some more advanced information can be found at Commons:Flickr files/Guide.
Hope it helps a bit. Best regards, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 16:59, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

I noticed that you uploaded a file using the name File:Eduard Sueß.jpg. A file by this name already existed on Commons. Overwriting an existing file should not be done except when making minor, uncontroversial corrections, so the file has been restored to its previous version. If the file that you attempted to upload is within our project scope and is in the public domain or published under a free license, please upload it again under a different name. Thank you. For more information, please see Commons:Overwriting files.
Hello, I have reverted File:Eduard Sueß.jpg to the original version. When you upload cropped versions, please (a) use lossless cropping and please (b) upload your crop under a different name (as your crop in this case involved both a significant change in proportion and a removal of part of the signature) per Commons:Overwriting existing files#Substantial crop or un-crop. Thank you! Greetings, --UV (talk) 21:38, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Probably you are right - but do YOU know what material the cape is? -- Kürschner (talk) 07:41, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Re: moving

No problem. But you need to be careful that you move something with everything it had when it was at en:WP. Offhand, I believe the film is still under copyright, so there could have been problems about the "not renewed" license. MGM was, I think, one of the last studios to mark their lobby cards and posters for copyright--this is why we're able to have the poster and the cards. They marked their photos much earlier.

Sometimes when I convert something to PD at en:WP, it's on the basis of finding a complete copy (front & back of photo with dates and no marks). If that gets lost, we may lose the photo. I've had to have OgreBot move files here in the past because there's often more than one upload that needs to be transferred. We hope (talk) 00:11, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
