What s wrong ...

... with this >>> "2PROZENT.gif", "Me sw.gif", "Uslar Rathaus01.jpg", "Uslar Lion 01.JPG" and "Uslar Bode 01.jpg" pictures? ff JaHn 18:50, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

I can understand you are Jahn Henne, but you state the source as "UIA (Unergründliches Intergalaktisches Archiv)." Is these images really yours or were they made for this archive by some other? --|EPO| 15:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Susanna Levin

Hi, Can you have a look at Susanna Levin as I don't understand the language which should go in any case but also to check that the photograph is ok to stay or whether that needs to be deleted too. I think it's Danish, if it's not - apologies :) Thanks and kind regards Deadstar 07:53, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

The article is written in Swedish - which is pretty close to Danish. It's about some 16 year old girl and her small living. Have absolutely no interest on neither Commons or Wikipedia - so I delete both immediately. --|EPO| 15:00, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
I had a feeling it was going to be something like that :) Thanks for your help! Deadstar 18:58, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Slet et billede

Hej EPO!

--|EPO| 15:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Thorpe pic

Can you help me crop and clean up this pic? It's desperately needed over on en. It's some kind of weird file that I can't edit, I can't even get it to display on my computer using Windows picture or Media center and had trouble uploading it. I'm not sure if you're aware of the Thorpe fiasco but if you have time/interest see from here down, it's on FAR and one issue is that it has no pic. Quadzilla99 05:02, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

To clarify I talked the flickr user into sharing so that thread doesn't relate to the flickr pic in question. Quadzilla99 05:12, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
I am no expert on cropping or cleaning up images. If you want a good job done better contact someone else :) But I have no problems in loading the file or downloading it. --|EPO| 16:56, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
I talked to User:Editor at Large on irc. She showed me Image:Ian Thorpe on a plane cropped.jpg - so no problems :) --|EPO| 16:57, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Please delete it, i uploaded and requested it to be deleted. --Ntrno 18:00, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Religion in Denmark

Hej EPO. Jeg er kommet med et forslag om flytning af Category:Religion in Denmark. Du kan se det på artiklens diskussionsside. mvh. Hubertus 14. maj 2007 kl.: 09:56 (CEST)

Hi EPO,

what do you think about this image? Do you think the Flickr user really took it? It seems unlikely to me. it's also pretty low res. Let me know what you think. cheers, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 06:38, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Concerning prod warning on image BentMogensenStatue.jpg

Thank you for your welcome message on my user talk page and your prod warning based on the concern that the name of the photographer is missing on the Swedish Wikipedia upload of the image used to create the derivative work Image:BentMogensenStatue.jpg. I will replace the image with a new version which is not based on the Swedish Wikipedia upload, and release it under Attribution ShareAlike 2.5 shortly. Image:Beatles cropped.jpg deleted - reason?

Hello, I noticed that you deleted File:Beatles cropped.jpg. I'd just like to know why, because apparently the image was properly sourced. My talk page is: [1] . Many thanks, --M.

My deletion reason for that image was "Source image deleted as copyvio". Image:Beatles retouched.jpg was deleted by User:Tom with "Not a PD image; rights to pre-1991 UPI images are now owned by CORBIS: http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/res/151_upi.html; confirmed in CORBIS database" as deletion reason. --|EPO| 16:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:ESC large ISS014 ISS014-E-17037.JPG

Hi EPO excuses but I do not speak the English language correctly. The image has been taken from the internet site and I it understand that up Commons are already present photographic images from the satellite as this. Do not understand what is the problem? Thanks --Dapa19 09:34, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I have specified in the description of the image the origin of such file hi. Should now be to place hope! --Dapa19 09:53, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Problem is that you must give a link to that NASA page where you found the image. That is what you have done now. Please remember this in the future. --|EPO| 09:59, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
OK! Excuses and thanks for the warning --Dapa19 10:09, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

About Image:ESC large ISS014 ISS014-E-17037.JPG and Image:ESC large ISS014 ISS014-E-17036.JPG

First sorry for my bad english.

As source i put the generic http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov address and the image ID (Nasa mission, roll, frame) and not the deep link at the image address because the "large image" weren't always online, but they are uploaded on a temporary address when requested and deleted after 24h (see [2] ), so put the deep link as origin of the image give an offline image, and put the request page, forcing the NASA server to upload the (big) image (needlessly, being the image already present in commons web page) every time someone clik on it IMHO was a "bad thing" from a Netiquette point of view.

I however put in the description the image "mission, roll, frame", with them the "quick view" page of the image can be reached from the serach page [3] easily [4] and from it the "Display Record" page [5] with the link at the "Large Image Access" page. Moreover with this info the original image can be found also if the Nasa web site change the link (alredy happened in the past) and in others Nasa&astonomical web site. --Yoggysot 07:51, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

If these informations are the most precise I guess it will be okay. But to be on the safe side please put a better link when stating source. That link you have put there now should only be used in the permissions field. --|EPO| 14:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
Humm... well maybe i can put the link of the "quick view" page [6] , this is ok? --Yoggysot 15:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
That is much better. Not sure if you can make a small note about why there is no link to large version. If you can't make a small note about just forget it and keep the quick view. --|EPO| 15:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
I add the link to the quick view page ad a brief explanation [7] [8] --Yoggysot 11:38, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I put the small explanation note as you ask, why the pictures were deleted ? Is i say before the HQ images aren'tonline in the nasa web server, they must be uploaded every time clicking on the request page link, so i cant't put they direct address because it result in a 404 http page, the "quick view" page and the ID of the pictures are the faster way to recover they. --Yoggysot 22:02, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Holodomor map

Hi,

You recently deleted a map about holodomor's victims with comment "derivative work". Could you please precise what it means ? The french article (at least) "holodomor" now turned back to the old map which seems much less precise. thank you, Levochik 14:03, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I've seen what means "derivative work". I think however that this picture could not have been deleted, because it is on the english wiki with the argument "fair use", see [9]. I'm not an expert about licenses, but it seems strange that the image could occurs in some wiki but not all ? Maybe because laws of different countries are different (In France, I think that copyright has only a finite time duration - so old books (not reprinted) can be copied without copyright problems).

So, since you seem to be use to deals with image's copyright and so on, please tell me if it seems you impossible to keep this image (giving the source). Thank you ! Levochik 14:24, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

As you can read several places on Commons - e.g. Special:Upload and Commons:À propos des licences - "fair use" is not allowed on Commons. Images used under fair use are not free. Commons are for free images only.
The map is protected by copyright and are therefore only to be used under permission. Uploading claiming use under a free license is therefore illegal. --|EPO| 14:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

CoA of Italy

Hello, good morning!

I'm new to Commons and come from nap.wikipedia. I registrated here to co-ordinate and upload Coats of Arms. I just saw in the "recent changes" of some wikis I'm working at that you deleted

with the statement "fair use". I would like to know what you meant by that. I thought CoAs and other national signs can be used independent of copyright. Could you please tell me what was wrong with these files?

Let me emphasise that I'm not here for offense but curiosity : ) --KazumaGER 09:58, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Not neccesarily. Might be that assumption in some countries. Either way it is not acknowledged as an official policy of Wikimedia Commons. In some countries coat of arms are considered to be out of copyright for different reasons.
This particular case regards images from a certain website, where the permission for use under GFDL has been withdrawn for reasons I am not familiar with. I was just told by a user that the files first were uploaded to Italian Wikipedia where they now are used under fair use. --|EPO| 10:13, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick response! Could you tell me, for the case I find and reupload them, from which page the deleted ones were taken? --KazumaGER 11:36, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
All images were taken from http://www.araldicacivica.it/. --|EPO| 12:43, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Al Emmo image

You deleted Image:Al_Emmo_Screenshot.png with the reason "Derivative Work". Could you explain this? The screenshot was completely original art by Himalaya Studios / Britney Brimhall and she gave me the permission. --87.184.87.183 19:08, 17 June 2007 (UTC) ([[10]])

Please forward documentations for GFDL permissions to OTRS. OTRS will check if they understand the terms of Commons and GFDL and if their response is adequate. If everything is okay the image will be restored and attached a confirmation that the permission have been obtained. --|EPO| 20:12, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Deletion comments

Please when deleting things please explain them a bit more. Comments like "superseded" and "derivative" are not informative to other wikis esp when we cant find the files which have "superseded" others. Related to this could you please find the file that superseeds Image:Jerryford.jpg --86.136.127.238 16:45, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

I had set CommonsDelinker to change all uses to Image:Gerald R. Ford, Official White House photograph 1974 (2).jpg. But apparently something did not go quite as I planned it. Though six days went from it was changed to I deleted the image. Perhaps the old image was inserted in this period and therefore not changed. --|EPO| da: 18:10, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Flickr

Sorry, I don't speak english, but I understand you. I see a photo of fliker in Commons, and I think that flickr is GFDL. --Rulf 08:31, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Nothing on Flickr is GFDL. Be very careful choosing the correct license. Most of the images you have uploaded are "© All rights reserved"! Read the rules very carefully! --|EPO| da: 08:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. --Rulf 08:49, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello, All images made by Jaume Ollé have GFDL licenses. See for images made by Jaume Ollé these links for the permission: http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:ALE%21/Flags&oldid=593659; http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Benutzer:ALE%21&oldid=33350185. Hi, Image:Octagon-warning.png is no longer under dispute. It doesn't matter much, but could it be unprotected? Thank you very much. :) 88.131.89.138 18:23, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Response

Please do not remove my picture: I have an email permission by the photographer. Sosomk 10:30, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

There was no proof of permission on image page. It was therefore deleted as a copyright violation. If you have permission from Flickr user forward this to OTRS.
