[edit] Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Copyright_violations#Rey-Osterrieth_Complex_Figure

Hello any further comments on "I have discussed this issue with Mike Godwin Wikipedia's lawyer and he states "Mike: i frankly don't think any of the patient drawings is creative enough to qualify as copyrighted. i also think that way about the original figure Sent at 22:56 on Wednesday" Some ROCF could be just a square with a circle inside of it. Just because someone might call it an ROCF one cannot claim copyright over it. Thus would it be possible to undelete this image?"--Jmh649 (talk) 17:30, 5 November 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. Well, it would probably be best to start a discussion at COM:UNDEL to see what others have to say on the matter. –Juliancolton | Talk 16:43, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay thanks for the reply will do.Jmh649 (talk) 17:34, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Commons:Deletion requests/File:Image7fort.JPG

Hi, did you see that there's a second file nominated together with the one you deleted? I don't know if you intentionally keep it, or just missed it. Can you correct it? Thanks. –Tryphon 14:00, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

The script must have forgotten to delete it. :) ✓ Done and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 14:05, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Rename request

Please rename File:En-Christmas tree.ogg, if this is to be kept. The name implies it is a standard English pronunciation, but it is not, and bots have been adding it to Wiktionary entries as a result. All word pronunciation files on Wiktionary (both English and French) follow a standard naming structure. This should be renamed File:En-it-Christmas tree.ogg, to indicate that it is English spoken by an Italian. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:24, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Judging by the discussion at the deletion request, I don't think that would be appropriate. The overall consensus is that is is pronounced correctly in English, albeit with an Italian accent. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:15, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
But it isn't correct for mainstream English, which is what the current name implies. The stress and tone are incorrect. I can pronounce words correctly while shouting them, giving them a rising tone as for a question, in a robotic voice, etc., but none of these would reflect the standard means of pronouncing the words. In any case, ALL English word sound files should have a country code for the speaker. --EncycloPetey (talk) 03:58, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Either way, "En-it" would be even less appropriate, as it's obviously not in two different languages. Perhaps you could start a discussion somewhere as to the file's validity, but deletion or renaming isn't necessary. –Juliancolton | Talk 04:35, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
The "it" is a country code, not a language code, and it follows the same construction as File:En-uk-abject.ogg and File:En-us-lobster.ogg. The first code idnetifies the language, but the second code identifies the nationality of the speaker, which is critical for sorting pronunciation files on the Wiktionary projects. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:17, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion requests

Hello!

Can you state a valid reason why you have closed the following deletion requests?

Thank you! --High Contrast (talk) 11:04, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Most participating contributors agreed that the sources provided were sufficient to allay any possible concerns. As most were unanimous in terms of votes, I felt they were fairly straightforward and didn't require a specific closing rationale. Regards, –Juliancolton | Talk 14:41, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
I would not have expected you to like this. If you look closer into these discussions you can see that there are basically two contributors that share the same arguments concerning sources on Commons. According to COM:L a valid source must be stated and this is not the case right now. Unfortunately, this frequently stated "Witness report" contains no images. We do not know where they are from. An evidence for these images being in the public domain ist still not adduced. Accordingly I'd like to see a comment of you why these image were kept. Thank you. --High Contrast (talk) 20:06, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Just because those two users happen to agree on the issue doesn't mean their votes should be discounted. Several of the discussions received input from multiple editors, all of whom unanimously agreed that the source provided was adequate. Consensus regarding the situation seemed thorough, so I saw no reason to doubt it and delete those files. I don't buy the argument that the nominations were made out of bad faith, but nonetheless, I can't find a compelling reason to delete them. –Juliancolton | Talk 22:41, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
So, you can state a compelling reason to keep them. --High Contrast (talk) 16:50, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
As I explained, the general consensus was that the source information provided was sufficient, which is indeed a valid reason to keep the files. –Juliancolton | Talk 17:16, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Yes, thank you. --High Contrast (talk) 17:43, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Your assistance please

Greetings,

I am sure that whatever these two images are missing is an oversight. Would you mind giving me the original URLs? Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 01:24, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

OK, they are marked CC-SA. Should I re-upload them? Geo Swan (talk) 03:53, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, as long as there is proper license info. I can give you the deleted content if it would make re-uploading them more efficient. –Juliancolton | Talk 04:24, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Ellis_Jones.jpg

How can I undelete this? Free license copyright of WORK [Ellis_Jones.jpg] has been sent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org Do I have to upload it again? Thanks. [User talk:Zaikovskis]

If you've seen Commons:Deletion requests/File:Ellis Jones.jpg and believe the issues raised at that discussion have been resolved, your best bet would be to post at COM:UNDEL to see what others have to say. –Juliancolton | Talk 22:25, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Michael Minsky

Again you take the photograph of Michael Minsky away. WHY??? 94.215.61.61 18:46, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

See please the history of the French version. Thank you 87.208.88.79 16:24, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Minsky_Mykhailo.jpg - and i just delete a reupload File:Michael Minsky 036.jpg. --Martin H. (talk) 16:54, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

The photograph is from a familiy photobook of 1954. So what is wrong? 94.215.61.61 08:28, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

See User_talk:Nicostam#Please stop re-uploading of the same file, you may ask Nicostam first why he suddenly changed his mind and why the image that first was "author=Unknown" is not from a family album. That appears incorrect. --Martin H. (talk) 09:41, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

And why you did not delite http://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:Minsky_Mykhailo.jpg?? It is the same story, author unknown.... Do you know from all your familiy photographs from 1954 who made them? 94.215.61.61 11:17, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

The image is on the Ukrainian Wikipedia under fair use, fair use is not allowed on Commons. But thanks for that uk.wp image, it only shows that Nicostam's information was entirely wrong. --Martin H. (talk) 11:24, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Spam images

whoa at all these spam images. Isnt there some kind of mechanism to stop these spam images from being uploaded? Like captchas catch spam edits from spam bots. --Matt57 (talk) 03:37, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Bot flag temporarily granted

J: Please see: Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Bot_flag_temporarily_granted_to_two_users ... when you are done just ping any 'crat to have it turned off. Many thanks for taking this task on, it's appreciated!

Everyone else: J may not respond to you right away since he's busy. Also while the flag is on his response to you wouldn't show up in recent changes which is suboptimal, please be patient. ++Lar: t/c 14:26, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Will do, thanks for the help! I expect I'll be done later this afternoon, and I'll post on the BN then. Juliancolton Alternative (talk) 14:30, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again for pitching in, much appreciated. ++Lar: t/c 13:46, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Your FP nomination

Hi Julian, I tried to remove CA from your image. Of course in the process I reduced some sharpness too :( I also changed color just a bit. I do like the image. Here it is File:Dirt road in winter edit .jpg. If you like, please go ahead and try it, if you do not like please delete it. Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 14:15, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

I like it. :) Thanks! –Juliancolton | Talk 15:50, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
I changed format and supported my edit. Please do not forget to support it too. Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:07, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
I've uploaded a new version - not sure it is better but if not revert - it may be a little sharper (must have learned something on the course :)). Good image anyway! --Herby talk thyme 15:39, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Pictogram voting support.svg Works for me. I'm not by any means an expert at photography, so I'm probably not the person to revert a more experienced user's edits. :) Thanks for the help. –Juliancolton | Talk 19:50, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
