English: Federal Hall, once located at 26 Wall Street in New York City, was the first capitol of the United States. That building was demolished in the 19th century and replaced by the current structure, the first United States Customs House. Built in 1833-42, it was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis of Town & Davis, and built by Samuel Thompson, William Ross & John Frazee, who made alterations in the original design. In 1862, the Customs House moved, and the building was used by the U.S. Sub-Treasury. The building is now operated by the National Park Service as the Federal Hall National Memorial, a museum that commemorates the earlier structure. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1939 and a National Memorial in 1955, and was designated a NYC landmark, as "United States Customs House", in 1965, and the interior in 1975.
