Nîmes (Gard, Languedoc, France), square of November 11, 1918, monument to the dead of the Gard during the First World War , designed and produced in 1924 by the architect Henri Castan with sculptures by Auguste Carli and a mosaic by Patrizio & brothers from Marseille. Funded by subscription throughout the department, it pays tribute to 12,866 soldiers from the Gard who died during the First World War of 1914-1918. It was not until 1952 that the names of Gardois who died in war during the Second World War were added and in 1999 the names of 54 Nîmes who died in combat in North Africa. It was inaugurated on October 13, 1924 by Gaston Doumergue, native of Gard, then President of the French Republic.
