  •  Oppose I'm against this move: inconsistent with the upper Category:Atlantic hurricanes Wieralee (talk) 13:38, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Wieralee: Category:Atlantic hurricanes contains 146 subcategories of individual hurricanes; ca 50 of them have no disambiguation. The subcategory Category:Atlantic hurricanes with retired names contains 57 subcategories of individual hurricanes, 55 of them have no disambiguation in its name. A general rule is that disambiguation should be used only when a disambiguation is needed. There is no reason for an exception just for hurricanes. --ŠJů (talk) 19:50, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose It is no need to be consistent with other category. What I means is that this is the only storm named "Irma", and it is retired in April 2018. Then there will be no more storm with the same name. So, it is fine to remove the year and no need disambiguation. --B dash (talk) 12:10, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@B dash: I don't understand: you are against your own rename proposal, using {{Oppose}} template as your opinion to your own request? --ŠJů (talk) 19:32, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Oppose There's no need to change it and there are links all over all projects of Wikimedia. Ymnes (talk) 08:48, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support The proposal is consistent with Category:Atlantic hurricanes and naming conventions. Hurricanes with unique names need not disambiguation. Links from other projects should be via Wikidata, redirect should be kept also. --ŠJů (talk) 05:39, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • Who repairs the links on other projects like Wikinews? (and how) One makes more damage than it heals when the names will be changed. Don't fix when it isn't broken. Ymnes (talk) 06:17, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
      • @Ymnes: Wikinews and other projects should anticipate that every linked page can be renamed. Even if they are not able to update their links, the link is not damaged because Commons keeps former category pages as redirects or disambiguation pages usually. Removing of redundant disambiguation is a standard and expectable reason for category rename. The only valid reason against the rename can be a possibility that some other hurricane will be (or was) named Irma. If we keep such a groundless exception from general rules for Irma hurricane, we cause mess and inconsistency to the whole system. The basic general rule is that disambiguation is used for disambiguation. --ŠJů (talk) 20:12, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
