Bot's tasks for which permission is being sought: Uploading images from the geological collection of the Estonian Museum of Natural History (a joint project of Wikimedia Eesti and the museum). The license for each image is specified through the API, so we're only uploading images where the license is specified and acceptable for Commons.

Automatic or manually assisted: Was manually assisted for the test run, but hopefully can be ran unassisted after that.

Edit type (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): One time run (ish): I'll run it a few times manually, until all images with a fitting license that have enough info have been uploaded.

Maximum edit rate (e.g. edits per minute): 2

Bot flag requested: (Y/N): Y

Discussion

  • What is the language of an author? Since the name is the same in English and Estonian, should I just set the same for both? I'm a Wikidata person so I'd be happy to use structured data for the license, but I have no idea how to do that with pywikibot - do you know of any guides for that? :) --Reosarevok (talk) 16:41, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Why is language tag necessary for Author field. Author would be Tõnis Saadre, Mai Seppel or Tiit Hunt. What is there to translate?
What about other languages using Latin script? Are you sure that all of them doesn't transliterate? Not talking about languages using other scripts, for example, Cyrillic. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:46, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't understand what specifically is the issue or how the result should look like. I've never seen that in Commons. Like when I upload my own images should I now also add my name in the Cyrillic script? That sounds pretty weird. Kruusamägi (talk) 14:03, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This was explanation why language tags are necessary. Nobody forces you to transliterate to other languages at upload stage. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:48, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My question is related to the fact that I've never seen that kind of approach in Commons. Like ever. So to me this seems a rather weird request. Kruusamägi (talk) 15:27, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I always remind about language templates for bots uploads. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:39, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please provide one example of the time where it is used. Kruusamägi (talk) 05:43, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
See JonHaraldSøbyWMNO-bot (talk · contribs), but it uses Wikidata for author and institution. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:15, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't have the slightest clue on what specifically you wish for. Creator templates being used? It there is something specific you would like to see, then show it and not leave a vague request. And don't be blocking this import.
There isn't anything fancy at what you linked. That bot there marks photographers as [https://digitaltmuseum.se/021025559294/?slide=0 Frederik Sørvig / Larvik museum]. Kruusamägi (talk) 09:43, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • At a moment Wikidata doesn't have the items about most of those species. So it is relatively difficult to add the structured data right now. And there are already links to the database, where the license is mentioned (one example). What else is there to add? Kruusamägi (talk) 17:10, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
At least Structured Data description could be added. It may be reasonable to add Wikidata items for species if source site agree with other scientists. It'll be good idea to move More info about this file and about this specimen at geocollections.info out of description. Source link definitely belongs to Source field. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:46, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Source site is as close as it gets to scientific info and in the future we could also use that to generate missing WD items. Kruusamägi (talk) 14:03, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If source site data is reliable and institution is willing to share it, why not to import it to Wikidata? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:48, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We are planning to import that. Just that this specific bot here uploads images (when it will get the permission) and doesn't edit Wikidata. Kruusamägi (talk) 15:27, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So. What about the bot permission? Kruusamägi (talk) 05:43, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Any chance to link the exact file source which includes the evidence that the file was already under free license at the source? --Krd 08:50, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Krd: , @EugeneZelenko: Can we now move on with the bot permission? It has nearly been a month of waiting. Kruusamägi (talk) 19:26, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. --Krd 06:52, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
