Possible Deletion[edit]

You seem to have a problem with a photograph I took of Donald Prell way back in 1946. Please do not delete and contact me if you still have a problem. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sirswindon (talk • contribs) 19:51, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

I think will be good idea to confirm you authorship (and age) via Commons:OTRS. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:58, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of Calf Studio Gear Logo.svg[edit]

What's the reason for this? Since I'm the creator of the file how can it be a copyright violation? --Drewbowls (talk) 12:19, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Please confirm your authorship/copyrights ownership via Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and file undeletion. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:02, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Commons:OTRS#When_contacting_OTRS_is_unnecessary states contacting OTRS is not necessary in such cases unless there's some other reason [the] authorship may be doubted (since I don't think anyone would rate this ordinary logo of "outstanding quality"). It's this reason I'd like to know.--Drewbowls (talk) 19:03, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
It's not easy to tell about authorship in many cases. A lot of users upload non-trivial logos (see {{PD-textlogo}}) of sport clubs, educational institutions, etc. as own works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:22, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation. Since the volunteers will also not be able to prove the authorship reliably I think it's not worth the hassle for all people involved. It was just about illustrating a Wikipedia article so nothing serious I should invest any more time in. --Drewbowls (talk) 12:37, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

Deletion requests/File:Kırklarelili-Yöneticiler.jpg and File:Edirne Belediye meclisi üyeleri 1930.jpg[edit]

Dear EugeneZelenko, I added some new information per your warning. Please let me know if they are sufficient for keeping the below named files in Commans File:Kırklarelili-Yöneticiler.jpg File:Edirne Belediye meclisi üyeleri 1930.jpg Cem Altınel (talk) 15:34, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

File:Kırklarelili-Yöneticiler.jpg still uses Creative Commons license. Could you please add dates of life for B. Cem Altınel in File:Edirne Belediye meclisi üyeleri 1930.jpg? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Requested info were added. Please check. If it is OK, please remve the tag.
File:Kırklarelili-Yöneticiler.jpg license was not corrected. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:58, 2 November 2017 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I do not understand what you want me to correct. Can you be spesific please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cem Altınel (talk • contribs) 08:38, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Creative Commons licenses didn't exist in 1930s. Is it anonymous work or photographer is known? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:27, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Both are anonymous. "File:Kırklarelili-Yöneticiler.jpg" is on a manucipality web page. "File:Edirne Belediye meclisi üyeleri 1930.jpg" is in my collcetion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cem Altınel (talk • contribs) 15:41, 3 November 2017 (UTC)
Please replace license tag in File:Kırklarelili-Yöneticiler.jpg with relevant public domain one and mention anonymity of work in description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:24, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

I'm unclear why you tagged RickRC's uploads with {{no permission}}. —Dispenser (talk) 20:02, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

It think Commons:OTRS is best way to confirm authorship in such situations. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:49, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
What was the reason for bringing up OTRS? Is this something we should do for every newbie uploading audio and video files? —Dispenser (talk) 15:42, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
This is reasonable precaution, since newbies could also upload excerpts from songs cretated by other people. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:45, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
I ask because I reviewing and concluding that Shazam identification was a false positive. Apparently, MIDI sampled music confuses it. Dispenser (talk) 03:33, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I just want to notify you that, while I closed the DR as deleted, it still remain this file, I'm neutral on this case. It is borderline De minimis because the photo could maybe, maybe not, have been taken without the posters. I closed the DR as deleted because it was an unuseful PDF file but I obviously did not answer your nomination rationale. Feel free to nominate also this file for deletion, if you wish it. No problem.

How to get pictures[edit]

I would like to insert some pictures in my german WP articles. Shall I ask by e-mail the owners of these pictures? If the owners (private person or museums e.g.) would agree by e-mail, shall I forward his answer to you? --Wagner67 (talk) 15:29, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

If you meant files which I nominated for deletion, they need to have proper source: author(s)/date and place of publication. They may be in public domain, but proper sources were not provided. Also proper public domain tag should be used as license. See also Commons:Copyright rules by territory. Files could be undeleted if you are willing to investigate these matters. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:34, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Those deleted files I'm not interested any more in :-) However ... I thought having put the sources in those files?!? Weren't there the sources in? My new question today is about getting one of these pictures : --Wagner67 (talk) 16:20, 17 November 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't know German :-( Both sites contain modern photos, which are copyrighted by default, unless somebody released them under terms of free license. You need to find site’s terms of use to clarify this. First page contains historical photo, but it doesn't seems to have source information. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:20, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Hola no hablo ingles... Como defender la fotografia que colgue aqui ? En todo caso podria cambiar la licencia de la foto pero como hacerlo? Franq85 (talk) 18:58, 20 November 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know Spanish :-( This file seems to be historical promo photo which could be found on other web site. Who is photographer/copyrights owner? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:13, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

No esta en la web. Tengo la foto desde hace muchos años y considere el aporte. Si en todo caso podría cambiar los derechos de autor podría haber solución.--Franq85 (talk) 16:40, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Изображения Fastcom[edit]

Добрый день. Помогите, пожалуйста. Опять поудаляли файлы, необходимые для статьи

Напомню, что подобная ситуация была в 2015 году. Вот наша переписка: User_talk:EugeneZelenko/Archive22#File:Fastcom_12_login.png. Вроде тогда все вопросы лицензирования были улажены. Ничего с тех пор по сути не менялось. Но опять возникли претензии к лицензиям. User_talk:TRustRust. Помогите, пожалуйста! TRustRust (talk) 10:13, 22 November 2017 (UTC)

Стоило бы исправить в поле разрешения ссылку на, т. к. другие участники не находят разрешение на А так же продублировать разрешение на сайте на английском. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:50, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
TRustRust (talk) 20:18, 22 November 2017 (UTC)
Странно... Я оставил там комментарий. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:41, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Structured Commons focus group update, December 11, 2017[edit]

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

Later this week, a full newsletter will be distributed, but you are the first to receive an update on new requests for feedback.

Three requests for feedback
  1. We received many additions to the spreadsheet that collects important Commons and Wikidata tools. Thank you! Now, you can participate in a survey that helps us understand and prioritize which tools and functionalities are most important for the Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata communities. The survey runs until December 22. Here's some background.
  2. Help the team decide on better names for 'captions' and 'descriptions'. You can provide input until January 3, 2018.
  3. Help collect interesting Commons files, to prepare for the data modelling challenges ahead! Continuous input is welcome there.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Perjalanan Hidup Saya.djvu & File:Perjalanan Hidup Saya.pdf[edit]

I've already dealt with this on JuTa's talk page.

I'm the grandson of the author and his sons (my father and uncle) had uploaded the file on his website for years without legal reprecussions after he passed away. I'm not able to contact the publisher, their website and email address don't seem to exist anymore. That leaves the oldest child of the author to hold copyright ownership of the work, who has been releasing the book for free (without any license) on his website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aumars (talk • contribs) 16:37, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Is your grandfather author of book cover? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:01, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
I'm not sure about that. --Aumars (talk) 08:58, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
What do credits in book say about this? Library records may be also helpful to find out. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:23, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
There's no information regarding the book cover. Only the introduction and the epilogue. Aumars (talk) 16:09, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Book cover could be removed from PDF/DjVu. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:13, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
OK, if I upload the book without its cover with a CC license, would it meet the copyright guidelines? Aumars (talk) 17:48, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

Commons:Derivative works from music and other works. File:The dance of the ciliated cells - Matteo Gelardi.webm File:Art&Science di Matteo Gelardi.webm EugeneZelenko (discussione) 16:01, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Dear EugeneZelenko, why are my uploads deleted? As for File:Art&Science_di_Matteo_Gelardi.webm, this is an original performance I myself have been organizing and playing out with artists and scientists in theatres and arenas since 2015. the music is all played live and the costs on copyright in Italy (SIAE) have been covered. File:The_dance_of_the_ciliated_cells_-_Matteo_Gelardi.webm was shot and edited with CC music by myself few years ago. They are both partecipating in Wiki Science Competition Italy 2017. What is the issue? Alexmar983 Thank you

If you are author of all video elements or own copyrights on them, please confirm this via Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Well, maybe it is also time after this one to discuss also this deletion related to WSC2017 because the file was not so questionable. It was a diagram of a specific topic.--Alexmar983 (talk) 02:56, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Please note that w:en:Scalable Vector Graphics is much better format for diagrams. That files were not used anyway. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Actually, it was used in the list of best uploaded files, which should give the idea that it was not crap... you have millions of old unused file and you start with a file that actually has content, welcoming this way an uploader who knows a specific field? About the svg format, the fact that a file is better in svg does not mean this is a reason for deletion per se... actually how can anyone put in svg if you remove it? Please link to me when this rule is written this way... I support good graphics but I also support good sense.--Alexmar983 (talk) 05:45, 18 January 2018 (UTC)
First files were not used. If they are really needed, uploader could provide them in better format. Also it's much better to explain about file formats to new contributors who may be active in future. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:48, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

New upload of the sample file, of the song: Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up[edit]

Please pay attention that a NEW AND ORIGINAL SELF MADE sample of the song: "Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up" has been uploaded to the Hebrew article of Youtube.

This new file has nothing in common with any sample of this song, found in any English Wikipedia's article, nor any other language Wikipedia.

Therefore, the new uploaded file doesn't violate any copyrights now, since its content and characteristics are completely different.

This is the link to the new uploaded file:

This is Youtube's Hebrew article:

I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused because of the previous uploaded file, "Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up1.ogg", which was intended to be deleted, finally removed by me.

EugeneZelenko, you would like to delete my photos/scans. Please let me know what is wrong with them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Armenius vambery (talk • contribs) 15:48, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Reasons were specified in deletion requests.
  • Documents and historical photos are not your own work. However, official documents are exempted from copyrights in ex-USSR. See {{PD-RU-exempt}} as example.
  • See Commons:Freedom of panorama#Ukraine for problem with monuments and memorial plates.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:52, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

OK monuments and historical plates I understand. But the official documents and photos are of my relatives. Whom should I ask for permission? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Armenius vambery (talk • contribs) 16:06, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

See above and below for situation with documents. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:08, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

I have changed the images tags for docs. I understand the policy for images of public places and plates and agree that they should be deleted. What about this group photo of students in 1935? Who should give the permission? Armenius vambery (talk) 16:45, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

I think {{PD-RU-exempt}} is more appropriate for commons USSR documents like that for medals, since Russia is heir for USSR. Please mention that photographer is unknown, so work may be treated as anonymous. You could use {{PD-Ukraine}} there. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:19, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Corrected --Armenius vambery (talk) 19:34, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Please move PD-...-exempt to licensing section and replace own work with modern license with it. You could mentioned that you scanned images in description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:57, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Armenius vambery images marked for deletion[edit]

You have marked for deletion images, which I uploaded.

All images are mine taken with my own camera/scanner and marked as such.

Those from the are marked as such and the ip right owner allowed to use with reference to the source. Confirmation by e-mail — Preceding unsigned comment added by Armenius vambery (talk • contribs) 16:02, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

You could answer in existing section, no need to create another one.
Please read carefully description and license sections of files you uploads. Scanning/photographing of documents doesn't make you an author. License tags and descriptions need to be fixed.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 16:06, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

ok. I will try. Sorry, use for the first time. Next time will try to use one entry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Armenius vambery (talk • contribs) 16:08, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

EugeneZelenko, did you even read the discussion page for the file? I explained very thoroughly why it should be kept and meets the free use clauses in the local English wikipedia. You deleted the file without an explanation. How come this file was deleted when other files exactly like it, like this:, and this:, are kept? Airgum (talk) 00:54, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

You should upload such images to projects that accept non-free content, like English Wikipedia. See Commons:Licensing. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:14, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Deletion pending of File tagging File:Bryan Kreutz at the st.Louis area press junket for the TV Pilot After Midnight April-2017.png[edit]

Hi EugeneZelenko. Thank you for the heads up on the need for permission to use the file referenced. I've since e-mailed ( <>)the permission letter I received from Bryan Kreutz to use the picture and one other on the wikipedia page. Thanks

Please ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:11, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

UZ Freedom of Panorama[edit]

My understanding that Uzbekistan amended the laws and allowed FOP. Please see point 9 paragraph 2. Correct?--Armenius vambery (talk) 06:57, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

It's really hard to tell based on single statement. Restrictions may be of copyrights or security nature. It's necessary to dig deeper into relevant laws. Sorry, I don't know Uzbek language and it's hard to tell how fast government of Uzbekistan in translation of laws on Russian or English. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:21, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. The link that I sent is in Russian. --Armenius vambery (talk) 10:53, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Russian is my native tongue :-) I meant translations of laws of Uzbekistan on languages other then Uzbek. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:19, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Image to investigate[edit]

EugeneZelenko, you have recently marked my images for deletion. It was a right thing to do. Could you please take a look at this image and let me know if it has sufficient rights to be used? My understanding is that the author does not have the rights, the image is not in public domain, the image is not used by the same page in any other languages.!_1943.jpg Should it be deleted? if yes how?--Armenius vambery (talk) 10:52, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

This image is uploaded to Russian Wikipedia. Sorry, I don't know files deletion process there, but w:ru:Википедия:К удалению is used for articles. As for file itself, it claimed to be in public domain because of age as anonymous work. If you could find information about author(s) which died less then 70 years ago (see Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Germany). --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:17, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks. The file which are in public domain in Germany have different tags. For example:,_Moskau,_Stalin_und_Ribbentrop_im_Kreml.jpg I will try to report the suspicious one. --Armenius vambery (talk) 16:28, 13 February 2018 (UTC)

This set of files come from archive (Bundesarchiv), and this explain difference in copyrights tag. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:12, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

The file came from Germany, but not from Bundesarchive. The source is indicated as Livejournal page, now not in use. Also it is not used by any German language page. --Armenius vambery (talk) 18:10, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

LiveJournal is definetely not primary source. If you doubt that this file is in public domain, you need to try to find information about poster author or probably photographer whose photo was used to create poster. If this person died less then 70 years ago, poster is not in public domain. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:16, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

hello, can you please tell me which photos you believe violate copywright, since many were removed already since october thanks.

also i have to point out that the city of ayia napa - ayia napa municipality has provided access to rights to the images i uploaded.
however please inform me which you believe violate copywright so i can remove them, but as i said municipality of ayia napa has granted access to them— Preceding unsigned comment added by Savatage79 (talkcontribs) 23:50, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
File:Ιστορίες δύο δημάρχων Stockwatch - Παράθυρο στην Οικονομία.pdf is definitely advertisement. It's also out of Commons:Project scope. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:18, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Maples Arce Diputado de la Unión[edit]

A ver, ¿porqué se debería borrar una foto publica de un diputado del congreso de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MFrankTS (talk • contribs) 05:45, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't know Spanish :-( {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} didn't exist in 1932. You need to provide proper source information to determine copyrights status. See Commons:Copyright rules by territory#Mexico. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:44, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Missing source?[edit]

Hi. I'm wondering why you tagged this image as "missing essential source information". - Takeaway (talk) 15:46, 19 February 2018 (UTC)

Seems to be promo/press photo of supposedly notable cat. No EXIF, small resolution. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:49, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
I tried looking for it online but couldn't find any other instance of it. It could indeed be a copyvio of some unidentified image from elsewhere, or it might be a low res image of the uploader's own cat. In any case, the uploader seems to be trying to pass off this cat in a hoax article as if it were the royal cat of Buckingham Palace (see this draft). Is the "missing essential source information" tag when there is actually a source indicated (even though it may also be a hoax) the correct tag for this image? - Takeaway (talk) 16:15, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
Uploader could upload original photo with EXF to proof his/her authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:21, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
