Deletion Request Several Pictures[edit]

Files:
Naval Group Special Operations Combat Swimmer.jpg
GEOSOF 3.jpg

Hello EugeneZelenko.

You requested the deletion of the above listed photos as part of TV screenshot deletion list. Those two pictures are not screenshots, they are photos taken during live exercises. It would be nice if they were not deleted. As for the actual media screenshots, those I have unfortunatly mixed up, Standart and NOT Creative Commons-Lizenz. I will accept their deletion.

Yours sincerely
TheMightyGeneral

These photos don't seem to have EXIF. Could you please upload them in original resolution with EXIF to proof your authorship? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:19, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
I am not authorized to share photos that expose identity respectively faces, therefore I had to edit these photos, especialy the latter one with a graphic editor. I will try to find the original ones and cut them out without loosing EXIF information. Okay. TheMightyGeneral (talk) 10:32, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello. I'm not sure why my article has this deletion request. Does it just need more sources? Could you give me more details on what to do to fix the problem? Thank you.

If you are author of photo, please upload original resolution image with EXIF to proof your authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:07, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I was confused about the problem. I've edited the photo to add the source which is: Wire Image/Getty for TIFF. Is that enough information to get it accepted? Thank you.
You claimed that this photo was your own work, now you tells that it was taken from Wire Image/Getty. What is true? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:12, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
It's Wire Image/Getty. I uploaded it for an article that was no published yet, so all the info wasn't up to date at the time. It should be updated in the photo info now.

SVRouss images deletion[edit]

Hi Evgen, You've deleted many images of mine and I don't understand the reason. Please explain it exactly, what do you awaiting for? SVRouss (talk) 03:20, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Your images looked like collection of advertisement (see Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by SVRouss). If you are author, you could upload original vector images for illustration or original resolution images with EXIF for photos.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:48, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
SVRouss (talk) 18:20, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
File:Sahinbas DZO 2007 Glioma study 140 retro.pdf
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:11, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
Sahinbas H, Grönemeyer DHW, Böcher E, Szasz A. Retrospective clinical study of adjuvant electro-hyperthermia treatment for advanced brain-gliomas. Deutsche Zeitschrift für Onkologie. Georg Thieme Verlag KG.
SVRouss (talk) 22:06, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:08, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
SVRouss (talk) 04:16, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:08, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:10, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Notification of possible deletion[edit]

Hi there. I have received your notification of possible deletion of the files I have uploaded as Lffs.br. I am confused on what I should do. For instance, how to provide further detailed information on author/date/country of each image created. Except for the file 20130810 Mérito Ewbankense.jpg whose photo of my father was taken by myself on 12Aug2012 in Brazil, all the other files are scanned copies of photos that belong to my father's private photo collection (he is the sole owner of those photos), being all of them taken by an unknown person (author) on an unknown date (between 1940s and 1960s) but certainly all in Brazil. I do not know how to provide the information you have requested for those files. Moreover, for permission and licensing purposes, would it be Ok if the files are tagged Cc-by-sa-3.0-br? For your information, my father wrote to permission.commons@wikipedia.org on 26/01/2015 at 15h07 an email that reads as follows (with the removal of full names here)--Lffs.br (talk) 01:48, 29 January 2015 (UTC): (text removed)

You need to find out what is term of copyrights protection for anonymous works in Brazil. Only those in public domain could be kept on Commons. You can't apply Creative Commons license to them.
If you father is alive he should send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates) for his photo. If not and your are only heir you should send permission too.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:07, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Eugene. Amendments have been made to all files you listed for possible deletion. Appropriate Brazilian permission and licensing information as well as author, date, and country information have been included, as per your instruction. Please review them. I believe those files can now be retained by Commons accordingly. As for my father's photo, that was a result of my own work. He is alive (88 y.o.) and he has sent the email above to Commons OTRS. He has authorized me to scan and publish images from his printed photo collection and digital image library. Best, LFFS. Ref. https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFiles/Lffs.br&ilshowall=1

You still need to replace Creative Commons license with proper public domain tag. However {{PD-Brazil-media}} tells about 70 years term. But there other public domain tags related to Brazil law. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:25, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for your remarks. What happens is that that whole lot of uploaded images but one are scanned copies of prints which were produced from the work of unknown photographers (1960s-1990s) who are the ones who actually own their respective copyrights. My father owns the prints but not the copywrights. I guess only file in that lot of old prints can be kept in Commons: File:Curso_de_Auxiliar_de_Comercio,_Jair_em_1941.jpg (first published over 80 years ago and meets the Brazilian copyright law). Moreover, File:20130810_Mérito_Ewbankense.jpg is a scanned copy of my own work. I am the creator and uploader of that image. I own the copyright in this case. So I guess I have the right to have that photo kept in Commons. In so doing, I have edited permission and licensing information and published it under PD-self. Hope everything is clarified now.--Lffs.br (talk) 18:48, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Yes, File:20130810 Mérito Ewbankense.jpg could be under license of your choice. Will be good idea to link author field to your user page to make things clealer. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:27, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Done. Many thanks for your time! I have no further queries.--Lffs.br (talk) 21:20, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Permissions for State/Public Emblems[edit]

You have posted a message on my talk page, asking for permission information on the emblem File:En Logo of Attica.png File:En Logo of Attica.png which does not need any special permissions for its use in Wikipedia. The Logo of Attica is the emblem of the Periphery of Attica, an administrative region of Greece. The File:En Logo of Attica.png was uploaded on the Greek Wikicommons, but due to display issues on english pages, was re-uploaded under the same licence on the English Wikicommons for planned use in the English versions of the Greek articles which lack the appropriate logo. I hope that helps. --SilentResident (talk) 15:29, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

You need to look into Greek copyrights law to find out status of such logo. It's definitely not your own work. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:30, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
I understand now, you are talking about the Permission Tag in the image's file, right? My apologies for this. Thank you, I appreciate your notice on this issue. The source: https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%91%CF%81%CF%87%CE%B5%CE%AF%CE%BF:Logo_of_Attica.png has the proper permission tag, but when I re-uploaded it, missed to update the tag. The proper way to fix it is not by editing the image's Wikicommon Page, but by deleting the image itself from Wikicommons, and then re-uploaded it under the proper Permission Tag, right? Again, thanks for your help.--SilentResident (talk) 18:22, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
Yes, if such logo is copyrighted you could upload it to projects which allows fair use content like English Wikipedia. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:18, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! I will wait and let the current one be deleted, and once it is deleted, I will re-upload it with the proper permission tags. --SilentResident (talk) 16:24, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
Please note that you need to re-upload it locally on Greek Wikipedia, not on Commons. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:21, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Again[edit]

Hi: Please, check uploads after your message. Thanks in advance. --Fixertool (talk) 03:48, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Yes, it seems out of Commons:Project scope. By the word, you could use MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js to nominate several files for deletion in one request. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:22, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

Nomination of File:Maithripala Sirisena.jpg for deletion[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you nominated File:Maithripala Sirisena.jpg for deletion. You stated that image was uploaded by User:Gag0409 while it's not he who uploaded that image. It was uploaded by User:අනුරාධ and it does contain an EXIF file. I guess it was a mistake. Just wanted to let you know.--ChamithN (talk) 13:47, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for notice! I removed file from list. Looks like MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js bug. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:10, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Photos uploaded by Gandydancer[edit]

Hi there, I have responded to your edit re the photos that I have uploaded. I work very hard to do things properly but may make mistakes due to my lack of understanding of policies. Any help would be appreciated. Gandydancer (talk) 17:48, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Mos likely images in question are in public domain, but proper license tags should be used, not Creative Commons. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:12, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I do not know what that means. Is there anyone here that could help me to do it properly? Gandydancer (talk) 23:17, 2 February 2015 (UTC)
For example, File:Harpers Illustration 1cropped.jpg has {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}, but should be {{PD-US}}. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:08, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

I don't see that choice. Again, I must stress that my knowledge is very limited.

Photos Deletion Request[edit]

Dear Eugene Zelenko

You marked the photos that I'v uploaded as missing proper date/country/author details.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_ISafa

Those photos I have scanned from an official Kuwaiti history book, not all the photos has dates but they are for important places / people such as 50px was the first school for girls in Kuwait.

Please help me out on what to do to keep the photos online.

Thanks

Sorry, I don't know Arabic :-( But Creative Commons license seems not correct. Some photos may be in public domain (this why proper author/date/country of creation information is needed), but proper license tag should be used. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:10, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Some of this licenses are not accepted by Commons, but think that they apply only to own work (text, modern photos). You should look into Indian copyright law (I assume that all images are created in India) to check when {{PD-India}} or other public domain tag could be applied. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:02, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Mass deletion of files[edit]

All the files you marked for deletion are all images licensed on flickr under cc-by-2.0 or cc-by-sa-2.0, and both are compatible with the license required for Commons. Some of them, also, are cosplay and not toys, and some are derivative from files that were already in Commons for ages, they should have been checked one by one, and not all in block.--Manbemel (talk) 15:53, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

See Commons:Derivative works. All of files nominated for deletion fall in same category. There is no point for separate deletion requests. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:57, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

But the file is still available in the english Wikipedia, and tt's used in the en:Propaganda in the Soviet Union page. I wonder if you could reupload the image again, so I can use it in the portuguese Wikipedia (same page as english). I tried myself to upload the file but it says I need to verify the deletion log (which I believe I already did) and I don't know what to do anymore.Faltur (talk) 16:45, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

102 (talk) 15:45, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:14, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
102 (talk) 16:10, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
102 (talk) 11:20, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:11, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
102 (talk) 15:58, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:04, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
102 (talk) 05:33, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:04, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
102 (talk) 07:03, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
Wikimedia Russia :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:52, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Why you deleted my files??????[edit]

File:CRC 3299.jpg[edit]

Hi,

I OWN this work. I am Yanis Varoufakis' publisher in France. My company name is : Editions du Cercle SARL. My address is 10 rue de l'Eglise - 92800 PUTEAUX FRANCE.

I own the rights on this picture and I want to share it with the community.

But let me say one thing: someone placed an awful photo of Yanis Varoufakis looking like an idiot. This did not seem to bother you. Don't you dare delete my above mentionned photo.

And next time, be more careful about what people write. I had to correct almost everything about Varoufakis' file. How come people who know nothing about a person can write idiocies and wiki let it happen?

Regards,

Jean-Francois Goulon

Images for deletion[edit]

Not sure why you nominated all my images, but I hope you conduct a thorough investigation before any further accusations or actions are taken. But would you be able to delete the images File:Terri Poch.jpg, File:Lisa Marie Varon.jpg, File:Kat Winter Waters.jpg? I own and uploaded them, but due to certain circumstances I no longer feel comfortable having images out there where even a small portion of me is visible. Thank you MavsFan28 (talk) 15:29, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

You could upload images in original resolution with EXIF to confirm your authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:32, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
Well can you delete those images I mentioned? And I don't know what that means, and I have a new phone which means I don't have them unless I saved them to my computer MavsFan28 (talk) 15:36, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
These images are part of deletion request and will be deleted, if you'll not able to proof your authorship. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:39, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
This makes no sense, if they weren't mine, how would I have all of them? MavsFan28 (talk) 15:41, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
There are cases when Internet is source of "own" images. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:17, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
There are also advanced image searching software to see if they were posted anywhere else. I can guarantee you won't find these anywhere else on the internet. When I upload my images, I was never told there was going to be an investigation without a basis to go off of. You should be able to tell by the image quality and where they were taken that these aren't images I lifted off someone. But please, do try to prove these aren't mine.MavsFan28 (talk) 16:30, 21 February 2015 (UTC)
I suggested you best bay to proof authorship already. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:09, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Again, I'm not an image expert or professional photographer. I took most of these with an iPhone 4, and a few with a Sony digital camera. A long time ago I was questioned for ownership, and it was decided that I did own my images. Its a little silly that you're going back three years to my images. If I had known you were going to do all this and "randomly" accuse me of not owning my own images, I would've had an EXIF or whatever. But as far as I knew, only images could be deleted if they were proven to have been stolen from somewhere else. And you won't be able to find these images anywhere else, guaranteed. MavsFan28 (talk) 21:01, 22 February 2015 (UTC)
Could you please provide originals at least for some of photos? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:59, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Can you look back at the previous deletion request on the older images? It was determined that they are, in fact, mine. I was never told I would have to go through this whole process again. And I'm not sure which pictures I still own after getting a new phone and my laptop crashed. But this just doesn't seem fair. MavsFan28 (talk) 23:59, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
I could only recommend to backup data. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:09, 24 February 2015 (UTC)
Listen, that's great advice in hindsight, but I'm sure you can imagine after losing a lot of my files that I could come up with that solution myself. Not my point. Don't understand this accusation against me, it can't be you just randomly stumbled across my images and decided that they all weren't mine. Like I said, I'll guarantee you can search the web but you won't find them. They're mine. MavsFan28 (talk) 05:35, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm not convinced by your arguments. Please continue on deletion request page. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:53, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
I commented there to no responce. And I'm sure you won't be convinced, but if you're going to delete them, I hope you can prove that I don't own my images and they're someone else's.MavsFan28 (talk) 16:12, 25 February 2015 (UTC)
Deletion requests are open to comments. They usually closed by other administrator. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:13, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Re: Pushing this policy into full effect[edit]

Hi Eugene. Was that question directed to me? Other reason will not be affected as that will be there by default. Rehman 15:34, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Per could be part of other reason. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:36, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

Deleting a movie[edit]

Hello EugeneZelenko,

why should we delete my video I posted recently? (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:L%C3%BCneburg_Impression.webm) The music is from a friend - I can proof. Just tell me how. This would help :) And the video files are completely created by myself.

Iglesia ni Cristo[edit]

I've noticed that a number of images that are uploaded here are screenshots of INC-produced videos or copied from other sources with their on-image attribution tags cropped off. I've nominated a number of them for CSD, but since I'm not able to watch all the videos frame by frame, how can I get them deleted? --wL <speak·creatively> 00:21, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

If particular user uploads fit pattern: same resolution/quality/missing EXIF that previously deleted screenshots, sure, you could nominate a rest. Mentioning of previous problems is definitely useful. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:56, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Iamsudipto[edit]

Hello. I'm not sure why my article has this deletion request. Does it just need more sources? Could you give me more details on what to do to fix the problem? I saw a message that commons is not for personal storage, I have tried to avoid the use, since I have also uploaded photos of Wikipedia conference participation. The pictures uploaded were more for common educational reference and show at various wiki conferences by linking various projects. I have been working on a project fro wiki media, to collaborate different types of images and generate a OCR pattern out of it. It would be helpful if you can help me by removing the deletion request please.

Thank you.
I don't think that personal certificates fit Commons:Project scope. Those with complex designs may violate third parties copyrights. See Commons:Licensing. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:54, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Eugene for your response. I see a lot depends here on your perspective and how you want to see my data. Ok no issues , if you are having fun. Thanks for your comments. Just wondering why they were allowed since 2013, and suddenly now objected. Anyway keep up the good work.
Commons definitely needs more human eyes :-) --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:13, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Satellite Collective program image deletion[edit]

Hi and thank you for reviewing the Satellite Collective imagery (2012 and 2014 programs); the overall document copyright for the programs is held by Satellite Collective as noted on the programs, and permission for use granted by Satellite Collective Director Kevin Draper; the visual and photographic images in the document are credited to relevant designers and photographers in the document; the usage rights for the photographic and designed imagery are contained in contracts between the parties and Satellite Collective made at time of the original image creations, and model releases are held by Satellite Collective for the images of individuals. Can you advise how I can best provide this information so as to clear up the deletion nomination?

Please ask Kevin Draper to send permission(s) to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:05, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Hi Eugene, thank you for the advisement - I will reach out to Mr. Draper. This may take a few days...

File:Fastcom 12 login.png[edit]

TRustRust (talk) 20:37, 7 March 2015 (UTC)

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:46, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
TRustRust (talk) 20:40, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:26, 9 March 2015 (UTC)
  • Fastcom_Menu_GC.gif
  • Fastcom_Objects_IE.gif
  • Fastcom_Reports_O.gif
  • Fastcom_Marketing.jpg
  • Fastcom_Locks.jpg
  • Fastcom_Balance.jpg
  • Fastcom_Autoinformator.jpg
  • Fastcom_Service_Params.jpg
  • Fastcom_Login_Screen.jpg
  • Fastcom_12_login.png
TRustRust (talk) 13:59, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
TRustRust (talk) 14:42, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
TRustRust (talk) 08:27, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:02, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
TRustRust (talk) 22:15, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
--EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:56, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

If you are interested[edit]

Hi, I hope I am not bothering you. I just want to inform you about a possibilty on meta. After the SUL finalization there is a search for additional meta:Global_renamers.

Maybe you knew already... as I did with other local bureaucrats with knowledge of "minor"/"uncommon" languages, I am contacting you because at the moment in meta:Global_renamers#Users_with_global_rename_access and meta:Stewards#List_of_current_stewards, if I correctly remember, noone is be-N. I think that with your impressive cross-wiki experience and your previous local experience as a bureaucrats you could be very useful.

Please notice that I am not an expert user on meta nor a local bureaucrat, I just care about the "variety" of the meta environment and I though that it was useful to inform some local bureaucrats of the opportunity.--Alexmar983 (talk) 01:46, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for suggesting! I'll think about it but I'm not sure about free time… --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
As far as I undestood, it is a very technical role, without great complications. For example, even users who were not local bureocrats or showed poor language skills or limited croos-wiki activity have been proposed (even right now, with noone opposing, they will have the flag). The goal is simply to get as much as possible GRs because every help is needed. I think you would be of help even if you used the flag once a week. I am also trying to contact some users with less experience, and more free time, but it is a little bit complicated: users with great experience but just one flag usually are very centered on one project and they don't show great interest in working on meta. Anyway, I suppose that as soon as many people enter the business, recruitment will become easier.--Alexmar983 (talk) 17:10, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
I'll think about this. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:10, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

File:WikiDay2015 - Map.jpg - Source[edit]

HI EugeneZelenko -- I updated the source on WikiDay2015 - Map.jpg to explain that the base map came from OpenStreetMap -- I added the red shapes. That is acceptable, I think? This image is being used for a Wikimedia NYC event this Sunday. I would like to use similar types of maps for other events so if you can help me figure out the right source for future uploads I would really appreciate it. Thanks! -- Erika aka BrillLyle (talk) 11:50, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Sure, OpenStreetMap is acceptable source, but please note that it uses Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0. So you need to change license tag accordingly. Please also remove self, since you work is based on other people work. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:08, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Family's Audio[edit]

Greetings: Received your notice about the need to document the copyright of audio [[3]], I would like to know exactly how. This is an old audio cassette, recorded handmade by the family of the poet in a poetry reading in the later few dozen copies to friends, who never had copyright or was in any distribution circuit. It's an old copy that belongs to the family memories and heirs (me) and I have digitized handmade and personally in my house. Thank you indeed for your help. - jacobogbg (talk) 18:00, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

In many copyrights law copyrights exist becase of fact of creation of work.
Are you only heir? If so, please send confirmation to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. If not, other heirs should be the same.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:14, 23 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you Eugene for your reply. I've looked at your links and think I understand as I have to do. Anyway I think I'll let it to be delete and later on, re-upload the recording but better edited. By then I'll do with copyright well done as you have shown me. I think it is best to avoid duplication of files. jacobogbg (talk) 22:30, 27 March 2015 (UTC)
Sure, if you want to upload improved version, you could upload new file. But if file will be same, you could request file undeletion when asking for permission assistance. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:11, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Map[edit]

Hi Eugene, You have added a tag (File source is not properly indicated: File:Karepa.gif) to a map which I uploaded to Wikipedia. What is the problem? The source is indicated and the author is indicated. I am the author of this map and I have the property rights of this map. I am a cartographer and I created this map with the software that I own and doing myself fieldwork on ground. Some base data I purchased from third parties. Any questions?--VillaK (talk) 18:43, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Does third parties allow to redistribute derivative works? Please confirm your authorship and copyrights ownership by sending permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:03, 24 March 2015 (UTC)
Beyond being a cartographer, I also happen to be an international lawyer. (No kidding here). It looks like you are considering to violate some of my basic rights. When uploading the file I have confirmed that I am the author of this map and that I hold the respective property rights. You seem to raise doubts, suspecting that this may not be the case and ask me to furnish further proof about my authorship. I can understand that you may consider your action as serving a preventive purpose, to prevent any possible violation of property rights of someone else. However, hypothetical and unsubstantiated doubts do not serve as sufficient grounds for reversed burden of proof. If you suspect that I may not be the rightful author and owner, it is your obligation to indicate what are the reasons for such a suspicion. It is for you to indicate grounds and give a justification. We are not operating here under a legal system where someone is considered guilty until proven to be innocent. No, the principle of assumption of innocence applies. Wikipedia has asked for contributions and I have donated a map that I have created to illustrate an article on one village in Estonia, utilising my freedom of expression. Under the Estonian constitution I have the right to freely possess, use, and dispose property.
FYI - the agreement under which some base data from the Estonian Land Board were purchased provides the right to dispose (i.e. to sell or to distribute freely) to third parties any digital products created using the source data. There is a limitation that I have no right to re-sell the source data, but this is obviously not the case here. The map is a digital product and I am the author.
I am curious what actions would Wikimedia take if I would like to donate some cash? Would Wikimedia accept the donation or would you ask potential contributors to furnish documentary evidence that the cash to be donated was earned legally? --VillaK (talk) 21:01, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
Maps taken from other sources are quite often uploaded as "own" work. So confirmation of authorship via OTRS is reasonable. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:17, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I would like to upload the logo, beacause I would like to use it in Wikipedia Italian. Is it possible to upload a company logo? If not, how can I proceed? Thanks a lot, Valentina

If Italian Wikipedia allows fair use images, you could upload it locally there. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:39, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics)[edit]

Please use SVG
Thank you for uploading some images!

Did you know that the SVG format is often the best alternative for this type of image? Scalable Vector Graphics have a lot of advantages: They scale better, the file size is usually smaller then raster graphics, and they are easier to modify and translate, helping Wikimedia to distribute knowledge to all of the world. A lot of modern programs support SVG export, though the result is not always what you may expect. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask me, a member of the Graphic Lab, or the Graphics village pump. Uploading images in SVG format isn't mandatory, but it would help. (Just to avoid any misunderstandings, please don't just put the raster image into a svg container as embedded raster.)[4] Thanks, and happy editing!

Hi Eugene!

Having applied to the Wikipedia Illustration Lab, I have tried and applied the suggestions i got there.

I need up using Inkscape on .pdf intermediate versions.

Reasonable SVG files came out, but they seem to appear slightly different in Safari and in Chrome.

Please have a look, and give me your comments:

Thanks, --BORGATO Pierandrea (talk) 20:58, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't have different browsers installed to test. I think will be reasonable to make default SVG size larger as well as separate plots. You could merge plots in text with <gallery> or wiki-table. Probably captions also belong to wiki-text. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:11, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your consideration. I think to svg file for a long time, but i'm not applicate beacause for a moment is a little uncomfortable for me, that i'm using usually the raster grafic. However i consider in the future to devote myself to the graphics and then i learn between short time this method, actually often (but not never) cheaper. Thank you for the message. Good job ;) --Fidia 82 (talk) 09:36, 29 March 2015 (UTC)
Many of flags you uploaded have simple and repeating geometry, so it'll be matter of changing colors only to create new flag, even without using graphical editor. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:08, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion_requests/Files uploaded by Izikson[edit]

Dear EugeneZelenko, as a newcomer, I'm afraid I didn't get the point exactly. I'm sure, from my part, that all of them are clear with copyrights. So could you be so kind to explain the possible problems with my files in more detail? Sincerely yours, (talk)

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:23, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Sincerely yours, Izikson (talk)

--EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:12, 10 April 2015 (UTC)

Zwizda (talk) 15:19, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Files rejection[edit]

Hi and thanks for your help! How can I upload my files and be sure that they will be accepted? I read many things about the subject but it is still very vague for me. The podcast is from this website http://www.wpr.org/preserving-comic-books-long-term , do I have to email them to get their permission to use it? The pictures were realised by the project (the one I'm writing about) founder, does he have to write a permission paper too?

Thanks in advance.

Please read Commons:Licensing. It's necessary to know author/date/country of creation for each comics to determine copyrights status of each image. Website is not primary creator of comics. They where published a long time before. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:51, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

"File:108 Minutes.jpg" photo of garik israelian among others[edit]

Didn't mean to acredit it as my own work. Was sent this image by Garik Israelian for the purpose of updating his Wiki page.. Can get whatever proof I need for rights from him/the photographer as I am unable to upload it straight to the page.

You need to ask photographer to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:56, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Can I upload further images with correct attribution or do I need to have him e-mail this completed template for all of the images I use? This has become quote a tacky situation.

I think permission should be sent first. Then you could ask image undeletion and upload other images. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:07, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Blanka and svg[edit]

Hello EugeneZelenko, you have recently left me two messages on my talk page.

  • File:Blanka mapa.jpg - what source information are you exactly missing here? it was drawed by me as it is stated in summary
You used some kind of satellite image, so you need to credit original source as well as provide its copyrights status. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:12, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
  • reminder of svg usage - I suppose you left this message because of my changes in File:Russian economy since fall of Soviet Union.PNG. I know that SVG format is better alternative, however in this case, image is distinctively different, contains data beyond SU, even include forecasts, not real data - as it is commented in edit summary, therefore should be used separately.

File:CMSfounders.jpg[edit]

I created this collage from 3 images created prior to 1923. No copyright existed and if it had it would be expired.

I am really dismayed how there is a system on wikipedia where someone nominates images for deletion - AND even when further justification is provided these images are still deleted with no acknowledgement of why, or any further explanation from the person recommending deletion. The ultimate travesty is when help is asked for, none is given. So once again, two of my images are on the "automatic chopping block". If no help is provided I know of no other action I can take to convince otherwise. I am left with the option of "fighting city hall" or trying to reload these images with a code that might be acceptable. But please answer me this...what is the significance of images dating from pre-1923 in terms of copyright status? SandHills (talk) 17:17, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

I restored file, but you need to provide proper source and license for it.
You didn't comment of deletion request page and didn't fix source/license information.

Dear Mr. EugeneZelenko, i hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you to request that you do not cancel what I set as the image, which are nominated for deletion. My reasoning is that I am the son who was called artists and all I'm painting. My father Ladislav Gradečak is the author of all of these works. Arbitrary me confirm what I am and I participated. He taught a gift to the Holy Father Pope ..rad my father ..inaće personal gift Cardinal Kuharic 1994g. ..because candlestick spiritual sources of the Croatian people who made my father in 1995, and burned by the President Tudjman. How can one say that it was not my father ??. These works have made history and now it so someone wants to remove. About that there are documented HRT these videos. It's history. And why someone wants to just delete. My father uzradio Divine door to vinici 1994g. . Blessed by Bishop Marko Culej. And it's all documented .. All photos I took I. And all are made with the approval of my father artist Ladislav Gradečak. https://hr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladislav_Grade%C4%8Dak www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AMuB7KqPTk www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwTjmRML5wQ www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaIso9EAXfs Ladgrad (talk) 05:48, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Dear EugeneZelanko,

I sincerely apologize if I have violated the possible copyrights laws by uploading Claremont McKenna logo on WikiCommons.

That logo was a non-free content that permits the fair use, but I didn't know how to use it to create a page--thinking wikicommons as the only way I could have thought of.

I'm new to wikipedia. Could you teach me how to use non-free content for fair use?

You could upload non-free files to projects which accept them, for example, English Wikipedia. Please note that such images follow special set of rules. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 13:57, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

File Delete Request[edit]

Eugene,

I received message that many of my files were marked for deletion

Affected:

And also:

The pictures I used, are freely found on the internet. If you spend 2 minutes to reverse search in google, you can find all the images on News Websites or in the DLR website itself.

And if you have watched the film (DLR - Free-piston linear generator.ogv) until the end, you would see the license.

Sincerely,

Please add links to original file and terms of use in each image description. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:16, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

pictures from Aureus[edit]

Hi EugeneZelenko You have suggested deletion of several of my recently uploaded pictures. I cannot - as explained on the discussion-page for them - provide any licences, as they all are taken from my family's private albums. Their reason for being uploaded on Wikimedia Commons, (and not on say Flickr), is that these persons have made marked contributions to Norwegian society, as the articles written about them shows.

Please redraw your request for deletion.

Regards Aureus

This photos may be in public domain, but photographer (if known)/date of creation/country information should be provided in each image description.
If photos are not in public domain, you could license them only in case if you only heir. Otherwise you'll need permissions for other heirs.
EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:00, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi again, These photographs are in my private possision. My parents, who I legally inherited them from, are both dead many years ago (I am now 52 years old), and I do not have any brothers or sisters. So I am the only heir. Therefore I am entiteled to use them according to my own will. (But as they are quite old, the newest being from about the sixties I think, I do not know which persons that have taken them.) So the pictures are rigtfully out there on the Wikipedia.

I can see now that antother user, called Jianhui67, has deleted the pictures because of your nomination. Your nomination was probaly well-ment but, as I have explained, not fully and correctly informed. I therefore ask you to help restoring the pictures. I am a well educated researcer myself (I have the Norwegian equivalent to a PhD in the History of ideas) that have published texts in 4 different books, and I have also contributed with many different articles on Norwegian Wikipedia. There has never been any problems.

So as a fellow gentleman I ask you help me restore the pictures now, please.

Best regards Aureus

PS: But what extra info I know and can be added, are that all these pictures are taken in the town of Kristiansand of Norway. All of them, except for one, has never been published before. And that one of them (this is the one of Arne Petersen) was once used in a historical report about Norwegian lounge-doctors, but still it is family property.

I restored photos. Please send confirmation of your ownership with explanations of relationships to subjects to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:18, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

That's good, thanks! I will send them the declaration as you suggest.

Best Aureus

Just leaving a quick note that the book itself says it's open access, licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0, so I removed the missing permission tag. —Mikemoral♪♫ 09:40, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Dear Eugene, This is my first attempt at contributing. These files are scans of photographs taken jointly by the artist, Caroline Schlyter and myself. She is aware of the free licensing agreement and I have her permission to use the images on Wikimedia Commons. I created small on the assumption that I would be using thumnails in the article I am creating but the full size files could be used. There is no EXIF data as the originals were shot on film many years ago. I would certainly appreciate your help in making these images suitable for use here. VTflatlander (talk) 01:55, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Please ask Caroline Schlyter to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:09, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Dear Eugene, Caroline Sclyter has replied to Commons:OTRS. Thank you for your assistance. VTflatlander (talk) 13:34, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello,

You have deleted a file I uploaded, and graphical log for Mayor Andrew Gillum's Family First Initiative. I work in his Office, and the image is a production of his Office. I'm happy to re-upload and give greater detail about the copyright information mirroring the above facts, but now I cannot re-upload the file. I am new to using wikipedia, and would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer in regards to this issue.

Here is the message I received: 14:25, 22 May 2015 EugeneZelenko (talk | contribs) deleted page File:Family First Logo.png (Copyright violation; see Commons:Licensing: Logo. Not text-only) (global usage; delinker log)

Thanks, michaelalfano

Please ask city legal department to send permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Then you could ask help on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard with permission review and image undeletion. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:48, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
