PLEASE REPLY AT THE LINK ABOVE.

I want to add a header to this page, but I'm not sure how to do it. I think that by following the style familiar to contributors to other Wikimedia websites this should be classified as a "Village pump", but because of the current title of the page it's not. I'm not sure if it should be classified close to the "Help desk" or put in the same bar as the "Graphic Lab". I think that the current lack of engagement comes mostly from a lack of visibility, so we should include it in an as visible possible space and mention it on other places, also add a link to this page on the headers used on other pages. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 09:54, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I found a good model, "Template:Village pump/Technical/Header". --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:14, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Editnotice

I created this editnotice based on this:

I don't really know how to add it to the page. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:08, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Visibility and engagement

Other pages have a header like "Template:Community tabs" but this one isn't linked there. I would suggest moving it to "Commons:Village pump/Idea lab" and then linking it there, sure it would be a bit of a bold move, but it would greatly increase the visibility of this page and thus the usefulness as more people would see and engage with these ideas and help improve and implement them. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:14, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  1. it was not necessary to have a header template. i prefer things kept simplistic and minimalistic.
  2. similarly, this is not a subdivision of village pump.
  3. i want to wait half a year or so before actually linking this on other pages. also i didnt have the energy yet to find those pages and edit to insert the links.

RZuo, the thing is, the idea lab on most other major Wikimedia websites is a division of the Village pump. One of the reasons this is the case is dus to exposure, the main reason the village pump exist is to be a centralised page of discussion where people can discuss things that affect the entire website. The sib-village pumps are just specialisations and to me it seems more suitable to eventually move this page to become yet another village pump. This would make the Wikimedia Commons equal to the English-language Wikipedia (excluding the WMF village pump as copyright ©️ is our equivalent to policy), and it would be an easy place to find these discussions. If you want people to share their ideas and discuss them this should be at the most visible place, if you have a good idea but nobody engages with it then it's as if you didn't have any ideas at all. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:12, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is also why I disagree with removing the header, it in the future this page will be linked there anyhow as this is a central page of discussion, VPI as an abbreviation is simply for those used to search for idea labs on other projects. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 14:13, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New tech pages

[edit]

even though Commons:Village_pump/Archive/2023/01#Commons_Developer_Group? drew no attention, i still plan to create a few pages to implement some of my ideas. some pages will be parked under Commons:Village pump/Technical: a page to record bug reports, a page to ask for code reviews. some pages will not be parked there: a directory of tools; this idea lab page for existing tools' feature requests, and ideas for new tools; some writeups on design principles...--RZuo (talk) 17:59, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RZuo, If there's no consensus against it you should be bold and build it, people will improve it if they like it. -- — Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:52, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
