COVID Requests

• I have a general request: File:FACT- Eating garlic does NOT prevent COVID-19 (cropped).png is especially useful because it contains no words. This means that it can be easily used in non-English content. Could such cropped images please be uploaded routinely? As an alternative, we can translate text in SVG files.   I converted all COVID-19 PNG files to SVG files. I translated all English text to French text, too. They are not perfect conversions, nor perfect translations, but the SVG files are ready for other languages. • A "screenshot" of the four maps on the dashboard at https://covid19.who.int/ Imagine a world in which a new version was automatically uploaded every week, without needing to update all the articles each time. (Ideally, there would be updates at "File:Current COVID-19 bubble case map from the WHO dashboard" and separate dated copies at "File:2020-10-25 COVID-19 case map from the WHO dashboard". non-COVID Requests

• All the photographs on [1] say "All images on this page may be downloaded and used, provided credit is given to WHO and photographers as mentioned with individual photos." If you could formalize the license to CC BY (or the CC BY-SA 3 you mention above), I'd feel a lot more comfortable using them on Wikipedia (I'd like to use them at w:en:Chagas disease). • (Another non-covid one. Let me know if you'd like non-covid requests to go elsewhere) - I'd love to have the photographs in Recognizing neglected tropical diseases through changes on the skin available under the CC-BY-SA license. I'm working on several Neglected Tropical Disease articles on English Wikipedia (currently Buruli ulcer) and WHO is often the only body with substantial media on the topic. Other questions or ideas

It's always nice to see collaborations! As far as content goes, I see infographics as not especially useful, since that's not the way Wikipedia/other Wikimedia projects tend to present information. A reliable and continually updating source of data, on the other hand, would be incredibly useful; see wikidata:Wikidata:Project_chat/Archive/2020/08#A_major_collective_failure_to_import_COVID-19_pandemic_data. And photos of WHO operations would certainly be nice, too. {{u|Sdkb}} ^talk 17:22, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

@Astinson (WMF): I'm unfortunately not enough of a data person to be able to answer that well. The main thing I see is just that currently, there are a ton of places where COVID-19 statistics are being updated manually rather than automatically, since no one has been able to set up a system for automatically importing it. As I said at the other thread, it's a colossal waste of editor energy and makes our counts for many smaller countries way out of date. {{u|Sdkb}} ^talk 18:07, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Brief update, more files coming

@Ajpolino, Netha Hussain, WhatamIdoing, Psychoslave, and Sdkb: WHO has been uploading more files, and in particular there are a number of interesting new ones on Women's Health and Gendered violence during COVID: for example -- there are more in the category at Category:Files_by_World_Health_Organization -- anything you can do to help them be shared and reused would be great :D We are working on the specific requests for COVID material, and they are talking to their communications department about making the files more easily reusable in other formats (i.e. SVG) -- but are discovering internal workflow gaps.
