Description
English: A photo of U.S. Army 1st Lt. William H. Funchess taken by the Red Cross aboard a U.S. transport ship on the day of his release from a Chinese prisoner of war camp at the end of the Korean War. Funchess endured 34 months as a POW and was held in the same prison compound and became very close to Army Chaplain Father Emil J. Kapaun, who received the Medal of Honor posthumously in 2013 for his acts of courage and compassion as a prisoner of war. (Photo courtesy of William Funchess)
