English: Chief Warrant Officer 3 David Fox gets ready to take off out of a forward during a tactical platoon air assault mission in the aviation combined arms tactical trainer (AVCATT) at Simmons Army Airfield, Aug. 14. The pilot, of the 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, typically flies the CH-47F Chinooks which have digital maps showing the pilot where they are. Even though the AVCATT simulates an older version of the aircraft they fly, it still allows the pilots to learn essential leadership skills. The 3-82 GSAB has spent the last few weeks getting back to basic Army Aviation doctrine as they practiced planning for and conducting tactical platoon air assault missions the Southeastern Regional Simulation Complex.
