Oystermouth Caftle, is finely fituated on aneminence near the fea, five miles fouth by weft ofSwanfey, and has, with the lordfhip thereuntobelonging, been almoft conftantly the propertyof the lords of Gower^ the firft of which lordswere the Beaumonts, earls of Warwick ; and bythem it was conveyed to the crown. King Johngave it to the Breofes, lords of Brecon : fromthem it came by marriage to the noble family ofthe Mowbrays : from thence to the Herberts, andby marriage of an heirefs to the noble family ofthe Somerfets, in which it is now vefted in theperfon of his grace the duke of Beaufort.
