Description
English: Babad Sultanan utawi Mangkunĕgaran [sic], the latter title perhaps being a mistake for Mangkubumen. In Javanese language and script.The text begins in the Third Javanese War of Succession, c. 1749, and breaks off at the end apparently c. 1754. A note which is partially glued down to the cover reads, punika sĕratanipun Kangjĕng Sultan Sĕpuh [Hamĕngkubuwana II]. Perhaps this was indeed written by Hamĕngkubuwana II. who is believed also to be the author of Leiden Or 2191, Babad Mangkubumi, which begins in 1755 (see Ricklefs, 1971).In verse; 160 cantos.

Dimensions: 225 x 185 mm.

330 ff; English paper, ff. 4-440 watermarked 'Budgen & Wilmott 1808', 'B&W 1809'; ff. 2-3 watermarked '1814'.

Endpapers of Javanese paper (dluwang).

15 lines per page, squarish script, brown ink.

Illuminated double frames on ff. 2v-3r with architectural candi style wadana in gold, blue, red, pink, yellow, green and black ink, with pairs of makara, naga and peacocks.
