Summary

[edit]
Description
English: After the loggers have gone ... Damage was limited to these broad tracks between the trees, the stripped branches (some in foreground), and stumps. In a few years the more obvious evidence will have vanished. It would seem that all but two of the larch trees had been removed but the deciduous trees had been left. This selective harvesting is common forestry practice. Woods are often planted with a mixture of faster growing firs, and slower growing deciduous trees. Because the firs grow faster, the other trees are forced to grow rapidly upwards to get the light. The end result will be hardwood boards cut from the resulting long straight trunks, with few if any side branches – although it will be many years before the surviving slower-growing trees seen here will be ready for harvesting.
