Description
English: All Saints Church, Knipton Window at the east end of the north aisle. The inscription on this window is very worn and it was difficult to read but it is dedicated to John Henry Manners, 5th Duke of Rutland, of Haddon Hall, Derbyshire and Belvoir Castle, Rutland. It is hidden behind the organ in the part of the church acting as the vestry. w:John Manners, 5th Duke of Rutland KG (4 January 1778 – 20 January 1857), styled Lord Roos from 1778 until 1779 and Marquess of Granby from 1779 until 1787, was a British landowner as well as an owner and breeder of Thoroughbred racehorses. He married Lady Elizabeth Howard, a daughter of Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle. Arms bottom row:
  • Centre: Manners impaling Howard.
  • Right: Roos/ de Ros impaling Argent, a fret sable (Vernon of Haddon Hall, Derbyshire)
  • Left: Gules, an eagle displayed argent (Lymesey/Chamberlayne/Sothill/Godemonestone, etc, Papworth, John Woody, Alphabetical Dictionary of Coats of Arms Belonging to Families in Great Britain and Ireland, Vol.I, London, 1874, p.300) impaling Or, two chevrons gules (Monson/Daventry/Fallesley/Robertfeld (Papworth, John Woody, Alphabetical Dictionary of Coats of Arms Belonging to Families in Great Britain and Ireland, Vol.I, London, 1874, p.542))
