Reclamation of Arid West 213 Lozicr Yellozvstone Project, Montana-North Dakota The Lower Yellowstone project will irrigate lands on the leftbank of the Yellowstone River, beginning at a point about twenty-five miles below Glendive, Montana, and extending to the junctionof the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers. The river will be di-verted by a timber and stone dam about twenty miles below Glen-dive, and the canal will be constructed in heavy cut for severalmiles eastward from this point until it emerges on the surfaceof the ground. The project will irrigate about 70,000 acres ofland, about two-thirds of which is in Montana and one-third inNorth Dakota. It involves much heavy construction and includesone direct pumping plant where the power, generated by waterfalling from the canal to the level of the bottom lands, will beutilized to lift a portion of the water to a bench above the canaland cover about 3,000 acres of additional land.
