Summary[edit]

Description

Every summer these small wasps spend a lot of time and energy hunting for prey to feed their young on my Musk Mallows. It's a good bet that they are searching for the larvae of the Hollyhock Seed Moth (Pexicopia malvella), who live inside the seed heads. Continuously gnawing away at the seed heads with their powerful jaws, they make a surprisingly loud clicking sound - and that is often how I discover their presence.
