Il y a entre ces deuxgenres si peu danalogie, quil nous eût été difficiledattribuer ce tableau à son véritable auteur, si parune longue habitude nous neussions appris à con-naître la touche de cet artiste. Mais quelque succèsquil ait pu obtenir dans ce nouveau travail , son ta-lent se développe toujours avec plus davantage dansles sujets qui lui sont propres, cest-à-dire ceux qui peu-vent lui fournir ces masses tranquilles et imposantes,ces groupes silencieux . ces caractères graves ou tou-chans , ces beaux motifs de draperies, ces fonds dunenoble architecture, dont il sait faire un si heureuxemploi. Les amis de lart doivent désirer que M. Peyron necherche pas à sortir dun genre où il a peu de rivauxparmi ses contemporains.
